Welcome

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 6:1-5

My Son, If you have put up security for your neighbor, have given your pledge for a stranger, if you are snared in the words of your mouth, caught in the words of your mouth, then do this, my son, and save yourself, for you have come into the hand of your neighbor: go hasten, and plead urgently with your neighbor. Give your eyes no sleep and your eyelids no slumber; save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Pray

Joke:

Why were the cranberries red?
Because they saw the turkey dressing!
If april showers bring may flowers, what do may flowers bring?
Pilgrims
What kind of music did the pilgrims like?
Plymouth Rock
Why can’t you take a turkey to church?
they use fowl language

Sermon: Part 1

Thanksgiving

every go around the table and say what you are thankful for?
Lets try that this morning: walk around with mic
Psalm 100
titled: A PSALM FOR GIVING THANKS
“Make a Joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!”

Make a Joyful Noise

preacher: you don’t have to sing good
Means: to shout or cry out
“Thank You Jesus”
Make a Joyful noise to the Lord, ALL the earth!
That means everyone has to do it!

SERVE THE LORD WITH GLADNESS

How many of you have ever wanted to show your appreciation to someone so you brought them a meal, or food, or took them out to dinner?
what did we do for pastor appreciation sunday?
we had a meal, everyone brought food
it is a natural response to serve when we want to give thanks
The Psalmist says the same thing, not only should we shout to the Lord, but we should serve him with gladness
the psalmist uses “Serve” and “worship” interchangeably
Service is an act of worship
Gladness
our attitude is important
if you went to a friends house and helped them clean as a form of serving them, but the entire time you were there, you have a bad attitude, acted like you didn’t want to be there, and made it clear that there was somewhere else you would rather be, Would Your Friend Feel Loved?
We do this to God on Sunday mornings
do we think God recognizes our love in our worship when our attitude is one of obligation rather than gladness?
Shout to the Lord
Serve Him with Gladness
Come into His presence with Singing!
lets sing this morning

Sermon: Part 2

Psalm 100:3

“Know that the Lord, He is God! It is He who made us and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His Pasture.”
When we worship and give thanks, it is important that we recognize who God is and who we are in relationship to him.

Know that the Lord, He is God

YHWH is Deity
God is God
it seems so simple and yet sometimes we miss this
He is the all powerful, incredible deity, who created and sustains the universe!
He created the SUN
It creates light and heat from the fusion of hydrogen to helium in its core
it is essentially a stable hydrogen bomb
It is 100 time larger than the earth in diameter
if it were hollow it could fit 1 million earth inside
God placed it 93 million miles away
thats 163 years of driving 65 mph, without bathroom breaks
perfectly placing it to give us the light and heat we need to live on earth
He did all of this by speaking, “Let there be light”
“Know that the Lord, He is GOD”

It is He who made us, and we are His; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture

The same God who created the sun, the moon, and stars, created MAN, created us
In America we have a tendency to forget about our ownership, in fact we don’t like to talk about it at all, it makes us uncomfortable
we live in a country based around Freedom and have ownership of your own life
But as Christians we ought to know better, We are His
The bible describes us as clay in the potters hands
God fashioned us and made us, the creation has always belonged to the creator
When we come and worship, we need to remember that God is God and We are His
Let’s sing together

Sermon: Part 3

Psalm 100:4

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
We talked before about things we are thankful for
family
friends
home
jobs
food
When we gather together on Sundays, part of our service is Prayer time.
during this time we bring our praises, the things we are thankful for, to the Lord
Also, during this time we bring our needs and difficulties to the Lord
Let’s go ahead and do that this morning.

Prayer Concerns

Verse 4 says to Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!
Jews would enter into the temple through the gates, and into the courts to bring their united worship together to God
that is what we do on Sundays, we pass through our gates and into our courts here and bring praise to the Lord
But if we were honest, its not always easy to do that.
It wasn’t easy for the Jews to do that and it hasn’t gotten easier for us sometimes
we get weighed down by the difficult things in life
lost jobs
bad harvest
fights at home
lost loved ones
life can be difficult, and it can make bringing praise, harder

Job

In Job 1 he loses all of his livestock (his livelyhood), he loses most of his servants, and he loses all of his children

Job:1:20-21

Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. and he said, “Naked i came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave and the the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Job understood that none of this stuff in life was his, not even his own children
everything belongs to God
we are merely stewards of His things
When he takes his things away from us, we are still called to bless his name
we are still called to come into his gates and courts with praise
Lets Sing together

Sermon: Part 4

Psalm 100:5

For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
This right here, is what makes it possible to praise God, even in those difficult times
If God is a crazy God, like the Greek Gods, then you cannot trust him
When times get difficult you cannot rely on him to be there to give comfort and meet needs.
But our God is not like those gods
Our God is Good
Our Gods love is steadfast and endures forever
No matter what we do, his love remains
you cannot get God to unlove you
Our God is faithful to all generations
No matter how many times we adulterous in our walk
no matter how many times we put other things before God
He remains consistently faithful to us

Not just David’s thoughts

This is not just how David feels as he is writing his poetry in the psalms
David is actually quoting someone else
Exodus 34:6
God is speaking to Moses, and he says of himself...
“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin”
God doesn’t lie
This is the God we serve
