Our hearts and minds naturally and consistently seek “greatness” in the very things these verses define as “foolishness.” The things we use to calculate our plans, guide our steps, and rely on for success, may seem rock-solid, but even these are subject to the realities of “time” and “chance.” In ignoring God’s true wisdom and eternal view of life, our attempt to become great and wise instead lead us to become weak and foolish. The Preacher charges us to pursue God, and his wisdom, not any other
