Ps 98. Tony van Drimmelen. To share in the joy of Christmas we need a sense of the joy that is captured in this Psalm.  This is transformative joy.  It affects not just those who are saved but includes all of creation too.  It is the reason saved people grow in righteousness and culminates in judgement that is absolutely righteous.  In the first instance this is a recognition that David’s throne has liberated God’s people.  But there is more.  Since this joy applies to everyone and everything it is a pointer to what God has done in Jesus Christ.  Jesus came into the world at Christmas to save sinners from their sins (Mat 1:21).  This brings on our joy, though we may not see all the results of salvation today.  Nevertheless our joy bubbles over with the future hope of knowing that Jesus will come again as Judge (v.9).
