Introduction
Last week, Doug took care of us and preached about truth.
Hope you were encouraged.
Last time I was up here we talked about
God’s Wisdom on display through the church and we identified it by Christ’s work on the Cross and Christ’s work in us.
From there we hit and looked at what God’s wisdom looks like displayed in the body and how different the body is.
Remember?
1 Corinthians 12:12-26
We learned 5 truths from this.
We suffer together
We receive honor together
We hope together
We share in the same comfort
We need each other
And we learned these truths because we are studying about “the Church.”
We’re asking questions like what is the church, what’s it look like, and today we’re asking what’s on the inside?
Break down this question and really what we’re looking at today is...
What operates the body of believers designed by the wisdom of God?
It’s like we’re getting to know somebody, a person, and what makes them who they are.
That’s what we’re working on tonight and if you grab a Bible join me as we look into this.
Faith is what operates this fearfully and wonderfully purchased, made, and deeply loved bride called the Church.
You ready?
What’s it like when you get to know somebody?
You find out the good and the bad.
With the church, we have the rebellious and the faithful.
The Rebellious
Turn with me to the book of Ezra real quick.
Here’s a little context first:
The book of 2 Chronicles ends.
Israel in captivity in Babylon first, now Persia.
Decree made in the land for a “remnant of Jews” to go build temple in Jerusalem.
Israel in captivity.
They were in Babylon from the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, but now Persia had defeated Babylon and taken Israel along with Babylonians from their homeland to rule over them.
Ezra 4:12-
The Faithful
Hebrews 11
T4G ARTICLE HERE
What makes this body work?
What makes this body work?
A few things here that are evident in these people that are what I believe keep the church operating properly.
Faith - Dogmatic belief in that the Gospel is not just a ticket to heaven but how we are to conduct our lives here on earth.
Read .
Jesus is the standard.
Holiness - standard by which they lived their life.
Set apart.
Distinguished and yet amongst the world as salt and light, but still different.
Repentance comes into our life as a normal part of holiness.
We repent from sinful behavior and cling to a pure holy conduct of living.
We demonstrate it to the world.
Love - Because of Jesus’ mission on the cross, we are compelled to share it, speak it, and live it with others.
We speak hard truth into them when it requires repentance, we rebuke them in love, we walk alongside them in love as says...
How do we do this?
Hebrews 12:
Let’s not be afraid to ask for forgiveness.
I warn you with...
HUGE WARNING AND CONCERN
I wouldn’t say these things if I didn’t love you guys.
Peace.
