The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
In our text we have the story of the Lord sending Jeremiah to the potters house. In order to fully understand the events of the text we must first understand the history of the text. First the heart of the people had turned far from God. Paganism and idolatry was at an all time high. Whenever God is placed on the back burner destruction is bound to happen. You cannot have peace where God is absent. Second there was a leader by the name of Jehoiakim who cared nothing for God nor the prophet. Because of his heart being so far from God he refused counsel and instruction from God.
