Saul was given a direct command.
1 Samuel 15:3 KJV 1900
Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
Saul disobeyed God - Did not kill all:
1 Samuel 15:11 KJV 1900
It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night.
1 Samuel 15:10–11 KJV 1900
Then came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying, It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night.
1 Samuel 15:10 KJV 1900
Then came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying,
Saul wanted to disobey God, but he needed good excuses
Samuel saw this, but Saul made excuses
1 Samuel 15:15 KJV 1900
And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
1 Samuel 15:14–15 KJV 1900
And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
Repeated his excuses in vs. 21
1 Samuel 15:21 KJV 1900
But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.
We often do the same thing in our own lives
We disobey, but we still want to look good
We also make excuses according to Saul’s plan

#1 Spiritual Sounding

(to those who didn’t know God’s command)
For Sacrifice(balidaan)
The animals are for the Lord!
Doesn’t the Lord want us to sacrifice?
Sacrifice is a good thing, right?
This is spiritual - giving to the Lord
1 Samuel 15:22 KJV 1900
And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to hearken than the fat of rams.
Hera aagyaapaalan garnu balidaan-bhandaa uttam ho!
James 1:26 KJV 1900
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
2 Timothy 3:5 KJV 1900
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
People will say:
The spirit is leading me
I believe this is God’s will
This will help me to spread the gospel
The Holy Spirit will never lead you against God’s Word
God did not want his sacrifice
God wanted his obedience.
That’s not the Holy Spirit
That’s another spirit
That’s an evil spirit
Saul says that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft(jokhanaa herne)
1 Samuel 15:23 KJV 1900
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, He hath also rejected thee from being king.
Don’t use a spiritual-sounding excuse(aatmiki justai sunieko bahaana)
1 sam 15:
Just obey

#2 Practical/Logical Sounding(byabahaarik justai)

We can’t waste the best animals!
We need to give them to the Lord!
God doesn’t want us to waste(uDaaunu) what could be given to him!
I will disobey in one area
Because it will be good in another area
It will be helpful in another area
NO!
When we put logic(tarka) above faith and obedience, we lie to ourselves:
We say: “I thought of something that God didn’t think of!”
I have a better idea
I see something that God didn’t see.
Example:
God will understand my disobedience because
Obedience is so difficult
Obedience is so wasteful(khera hunchha)
Obedience won’t bear as much fruit
Obedience doesn’t provide as much opportunity
Success(saphaltaa) in God’s eyes is no determined by our ease/rest
Success in God’s eyes is not determined by our money our how much we saved(bachaaunu)
Didn’t spend
Success in God’s eyes is not determined by how many people come to church or numbers of conversions
Success in God’s eyes is according to our obedience!
James 1:22 KJV 1900
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
John 14:15 KJV 1900
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
There is no better plan than God’s plan
God’s plan always starts with faith and obedience!
Faith that His way is better than our way
Obedience is the evidence of that faith!
John 14:15 KJV 1900
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
The Devil rarely tempts with an obvious choice
Good vs. Evil!
Most often it is something that looks good vs. something difficult, but right
I want to have opportunity to share the gospel
I won‘t say anything difficult from the Bible
(naitik patan hunu) them.
I will be quiet
“It’s never right to do wrong in order to have an opportunity to do right.”
If your plan requires lies
disobedience
breaking any of God’s law
It’s a bad plan - just obey
Don’t use a practical sounding excuse(byabahaari-justai sunieko bahaana)
Just obey

#3 Blamed Others

“They” did it
Other’s forced me
I had no choice
My boss made me
Galatians 6:5 KJV 1900
For every man shall bear his own burden.
You will carry the consequences(prabhaav-haru) of your own actions.
Here Saul was the leader(neta)
He should have obeyed
He should have killed all
You can always do right:
It may be difficult
There may be consequences(prabhaav)
You may receive persecution(utpiDit)
Doing sin(paap) is never someone else’s fault(dosh)!
2
2 Corinthians 5:10 KJV 1900
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
This excuse cannot be used before God!
Do not blame others
Just obey
