Advent Candles
The Prophecy/Promise Candle (candle #1)
We thank God for His Word and what it tells about Him and His Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Scriptures not only tell us about the birth of the Messiah, but of those who lived by faith and waited for the promised Messiah, the Old Testament told of the one who would be born - born for a specific purpose.
As we light this first candle, we remember the Word of God and the promises of a coming Messiah and why He would come.
In the Garden of Eden, God said:
The angel of the Lord explained to Joseph:
The prophet Isaiah told the people of his day of the coming Messiah.
Picking up on the those words from Isaiah, Christ testified that He was that light.
Jn 8:
One of the Psalmists commented on the blessedness of those recognize the Messiah, the light of the world and rejoice in Him.

The Peace Candle (candle #2)
As we light the peace candle, and relight the promise candle that we light last week, we thank God and celebrate the promised birth Christ and the peace that was promised to those who would believe in Him.

The People Candle (candle #3)
As we light the third candle, the people candle, and the previous two candles - promise and peace, we acknowledge that the Word of God makes it very clear that the promises of God must be received by faith.
God graciously works through those who believe and serve Him.

The Christ Candles- the promised prince peace and returning King (candle #4)
Having relight the previous three candles - promise, peace and people, we now light the first Christ candle and celebrate the birth of Christ, the promised prince of peace.

In remembering and celebrating the birth of Christ, we must look past the baby in the manger.
We know that Jesus lived and died for those who would receive Him by faith.
By lighting one more candle, we look forward to Christ’s return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
