Seeing things in the light of eternity!
Every descent people (even non-believer) think and plan for the future.
But they think and plan only up to the grave.
What about our life after the grave!
Prov 23:18
18 For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off. NKJV
Our perspective as well as our response to the situations of life (be it negative or positive) will hugely change if we see things in the light of eternity.
Jesus was able to endure the cross and despised the shame because He saw things in the light of eternity (See Heb 12:1, 2)
Paul had faith not only to overcome life's situations but to endure them because he saw things in the light of eternity. (See 2Cor4:16-18).
The suffering Paul went through was an untold suffering, however he considered it "light affliction"! Because he saw things in the light of eternity!
See what advise did Paul give to the Corinthians:
1 Cor 7:29-31
29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, 30 those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, 31 and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away. NKJV
Jesus gave a parable of an unjust steward in Luke 16:1-13.
The parable of the dishonest steward illustrates the stewardship of wealth. Here Jesus does not approve the steward's fraud (v.10), but commends his prudence in using present opportunities for his future welfare (v.8). For a Christian, prudent use of possessions is for the benefit of others.
If believers live their life in the light of eternity, they are to adopt the attitude of finding the source of their life in Christ, rather than in the earthly institute, whether marriage, the social sphere, or the economic world. A Christian is to live intently and responsibly and yet see these realities as ultimately temporal.
This present life is just like vapor compared to the life we are going to live hereafter! (See James4:14).
Jesus told us to lay up treasure in heaven- Mat 6:19-21
We have an account in heaven-Phil 4:17
1 Tim 4:8
8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
NKJV
see the story of the rich man and Lazarus-Luke 16:19-31
Jesus said, "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2
Therefore we must now endeavor to do things that will positively impact our lives and the lives of other for eternity as Jesus and Paul did!
Let's be farsighted not short-sighted!
