Introduction to Jude

This letter is written by Jude, who humbly calls himself “the brother of James”. He is, therefore, a brother of Jesus, but does not consider himself an apostle.
This is a pastoral letter. It is full of strong warning against some false teachers who have “secretly slipped in among them.”
The main issue of this letter is that they are thwarting the Gospel.

Overview of the Letter

The crucial matter of the entire letter is the false teachers. Here is a picture we gather about who they are.
They have been accepted within the community as Christians (v. 4)
They follow their own evil desires (v. 16, 18)
They are like unreasoning animals
They pollute their own bodies (v. 10)
They reject authority and heap abuse on celestial beings
