Aim: We should focus on Jesus because He is the central figure and message of the entire Bible.
Introduction:
The Battleground for Christians today is the Bible. (Morality, Sexuality, Politics are all second to Truth)
The Bible is inerrant. (The message is complete and perfect as is…You can not disagree & be saved)
The Bible is factual. (The message is truth perfectly presented…Christians and Evolution - Don’t mix)
The Bible is living. ( - The Spirit of God works through understanding His word)
The Bible’s complete focus from start to finish is the revelation of God’s glory through His son Jesus.
The Bible is authored by men through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God. (Thankful for the Bible)
Context:
The claim made by Jesus here puts Him in the same position as God who pre-existed Abraham.
Sermon:
Jesus is PICTURED in the Old Testament. ( - OT gives types of Jesus…Paints a Picture)
The people paint a picture of Jesus. (None of these men were perfect or should be worshipped…)
Joseph (: Joseph was betrayed by his own…Yet rose to a position of authority)
Moses (: God chose Moses to be the deliverer of the people…Egypt is type of the world)
David (: David was divinely qualified and chosen to rule the people…Protect and Lead)
The processes paint a picture of Jesus. ( - Without the shedding of blood…Points to Jesus)
The provision paints a picture of Jesus. (-God will provide a sacrifice-Mt. Moriah/Mt. Calvary)
Israel’s needs were met. (Exodus - Needs were provided in the wilderness)
Israel’s needs were exceeded. (Joshua - Inheritance was provided in the promised land)
Jesus is PROPHESIED in the Old Testament. (The Bible does one thing no other book does…Predicts Future)
His birth. ( - Born of a Virgin… - Born in Bethlehem…Gospel Confirms)
His life. (Old Testament gives us predictions about the person Jesus would be)
The events surrounding His birth. ( - Massacre of Children… - time in Egypt)
The events surrounding His ministry. (-Minister in Galilee…-Parable Teaching)
His death. ( - He would be crucified with criminals.)
His victory. ( & - Point to the resurrection of Christ.)
Jesus is PORTRAYED in the New Testament. (We are given an account of Jesus here on earth and effect)
We have the accounts of His life. (Four eyewitness gospel accounts of the life of Jesus.)
The model He provided. ( - Be perfect as your father is perfect…Love, Purity, Honor)
The molding He provided. ( - Distinct because He taught with authority)
We have the accounts of His legacy. (Acts-Letters-Epistles all give an account of the impact of Jesus)
The impact of the early church. ( - You have filled Jersualem with your teaching.)
The impact of the missionary movement. ( - So that I might save some…)
Jesus is PROCLAIMED in Revelation. (The Bible gives us the end to the story of life as we know it…)
He will gain ultimate victory. ( - Battle of Armageddon is won by Christ)
He will have ultimate
He will be given ultimate honor. ( - God and the Lamb are the Temple…Worshiped)
Conclusion:
The Bible is God’s word given graciously to us so that we can come to know Him and His son Jesus.
The focal point from beginning to end is the story of redemption through Jesus.
You can experience a relationship with God today through Jesus as the Spirit moves in you.
