Luke 17:11–19 HCSB
11 While traveling to Jerusalem, He passed between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As He entered a village, 10 men with serious skin diseases met Him. They stood at a distance 13 and raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 When He saw them, He told them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And while they were going, they were healed. 15 But one of them, seeing that he was healed, returned and, with a loud voice, gave glory to God. 16 He fell facedown at His feet, thanking Him. And he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus said, “Were not 10 cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Didn’t any return to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He told him, “Get up and go on your way. Your faith has made you well.”

The activity of my heart should show in the actions of my hands.

Background of Leprosy. Leprosy was a skin disease that was common in biblical times. Even today, there are leper colonies in India and Japan. The modern day form of leprosy is a painful disease where one become numb to pain and one’s skin rots, dies, and falls off. People lose fingers and toes to it. The disease described in the Bible as leprosy seems to be a little different than modern day, but still painful and dangerous. It would show itself with white patches on the skin and was highly contagious. You will recall Namaan and King Uzziah. The most painful part was not the disease itself, but the way it completely disrupted life. Leviticus
Leviticus 13:45–46 HCSB
45 “The person afflicted with an infectious skin disease is to have his clothes torn and his hair hanging loose, and he must cover his mouth and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean!’ 46 He will remain unclean as long as he has the infection; he is unclean. He must live alone in a place outside the camp.
Leprosy caused one to live “outside the camp.”
one to live away from their families.
away from society.
banned from the temple of the Lord.
-We have spiritual leprosy. Leprosy caused isolation.

The obedience of faith (v. 14)

Relation between faith and obedience. Faith is of the heart, but it shows itself in obedience. faith is simply believing and trusting in what God had said. It shows itself in obedience.

It is visible… “show yourself to the preists.”

with a loud voice, falling facedown before Him.

The Lord has done great things for me. (Don’t say yet)

Recognize who He is.

Realize what He has done. (Great things)
2 Corinthians 3:18 HCSB
18 We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Luke 5:4–8 HCSB
4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing! But at Your word, I’ll let down the nets.” 6 When they did this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets began to tear. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!”

Reflect on His Grace. (for me--how surprising it is that He did these things for us) (SAMARITAN)
ONly 1 expresses it. and Jesus says it gave glory to God. Perhaps the others felt that they deserved it because they were already somewhat deserving.
