Opening Illustration - Ken Davis: A Robbery

Topic Body

David’s Sin: Bathsheeba & Uriah
2 Samuel 12:11–12 CSB
“This is what the Lord says, ‘I am going to bring disaster on you from your own family: I will take your wives and give them to another before your very eyes, and he will sleep with them in broad daylight. You acted in secret, but I will do this before all Israel and in broad daylight.’ ”
David would see Absolom Murders Amnon, and Absolom eventually usurping the throne and sleeping with His concubines.
David even goes on the run to save his life.
Romans 6:23 CSB
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Samuel 12:
Sin introduced death with Adam
It always brings death and destruction
Numbers 32:23 CSB
But if you don’t do this, you will certainly sin against the Lord; be sure your sin will catch up with you.
Numbers
Moses warning the Gad & Rueben who are on the eastern side of the Jordan that it was a sin to stay back now that they have their land.
There is always consequence to sin.
What the parents struggle with, brings the sin into the family. The kids begin struggling with these issues. The consequence is seen in their own lives and their children.
Luke 12:2–3 CSB
There is nothing covered that won’t be uncovered, nothing hidden that won’t be made known. Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in an ear in private rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.
Luke 12:3 CSB
Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in an ear in private rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.
Jesus is talking about the sin of Hypocrisy.
Our character & integrity is to be the same person behind closed doors that they are in public.
If you can’t say those dirty jokes in public, don’t say them privately.
What are you doing in secret that no ones knows about?
Unless you repent before the Lord, this will be made public, everyone will eventually know, and it will be posted on social media.
Luke 6:43–45 CSB
“A good tree doesn’t produce bad fruit; on the other hand, a bad tree doesn’t produce good fruit. For each tree is known by its own fruit. Figs aren’t gathered from thornbushes, or grapes picked from a bramble bush. A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart. An evil person produces evil out of the evil stored up in his heart, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.
Luke 6:45 CSB
A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart. An evil person produces evil out of the evil stored up in his heart, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.
An oak tree doesn’t produce strawberries, a pine tree doesn’t produce apples, a Bird of Paradise doesn’t produce Pineapple
Our character flows from
Our character flows from
Why do we spend fellowship time with God privately?
An Evil action is caused by evil in the heart
Why do we spend each morning in prayer and reading the Bible?
Good is produced by having good in your heart
Why are we to pray without ceasing?
You can tell the state of a person by what they talk about. Just listen and you can tell if they have been fellowshipping with God or whether they have been watching a lot of movies and tv.
You can tell what kind of Youtube videos a person watches by how they interact with others.
There is always a source of the good or evil in their lives.

Application to Our Lives

Our character flows from our hidden lives with God.
Your Hidden actions will build your character and reveal itself in what you do and what you say.
Why do we spend fellowship time with God privately?
Why do we spend each morning in prayer and reading the Bible?
Why are we to pray without ceasing?
What is your life producing? it is a direct result in the type of information you put in. Garbage in, Garbage out
What Hidden sin do you have? Do you lead a double life?
Psalm 139:23-24
