Is There a Problem?

Jesus the Savior of the World
Why Jesus?
Christmas is close, it’s the time of the year we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the coming of the Messiah the savior of the world
This sounds like a funny question but it is one we ask ourselves a lot
we ask ourselves:
Am I doing what is good?
Is what I am doing pleasant to the eyes?
Does it make me look wise?
Is there a problem?
We usually do what we think is right in our own eyes
and there lies the problem...
This isn’t a new problem though its been around for a while...
Genesis 2:8–9 NKJV
The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:15–17 NKJV
Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Genesis 2:8-9
Genesis 2:15
God created us in His image and likeness and placed us in a garden. Man would tend to the garden and eat of all the fruit of garden, except one!
There were two trees that were very important.
1- The Tree of Life
2 - The Tree of the knowledge of good and evil
One gave life the other gave death!
What tree am I eating from?
There was a reason Jesus came to earth
Origin of man’s sin
The first sin was eating of the tree of the knowledge or good and evil. This is where all the trouble began.
you see when we disobey God that in and of itself is sin but the consequences of our sin can and will lead to more sin…
It started with doubting God’s word
It was good for food
It was pleasant to the eyes
Desirable to make one wise
They sinned and the consequences were that there eyes were opened to see good and evil
before they were only meant to eat of the tree of life and live forever but now good and evil became visible to their understanding
How dangerous was this new vision?
God said it would bring death to them.
Do we today agree with God?
You see when they ate of the tree of knowledge, their innocence was lost. They saw there nakedness, and apparently naked is evil and covered is good, so they did what was good and covered themselves.
Psalm 14:3 NKJV
They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.
We can focus all our energy on being good and not realize that us trying to be good is 1/2 of the problem. The other half is the fact that we are not good but evil.
Isaiah 64:6 NKJV
But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
(MSG) We’ve sinned and kept at it so long!
There was a reason Jesus came to earth
Is there any hope for us? Can we be saved?
We’re all sin-infected, sin-contaminated.
Our best efforts are grease stained rags
Doing what is good is enticing, it feels and looks great but is one of the greatest deceptions mankind can fall into.
Our best efforts are grease stained rags
Don’t get me wrong God is Good and He alone is Good.
We are called to live in Christ and have Him live in us. to be come one with Him
When we are in Christ we become the embodiment of God on earth.. Goodness on earth!
But when we do things attain goodness or good standing or to make us feel good we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
When Jesus came to the world lines had already been drawn between His people.
The good ones and the evil ones.
The knowledge of who was good and who wasn’t was very clear.
The good ones were the followers of the law. the righteous ones who followed the rules and laws established by the religious leaders and the mosaic law given by God! This group considered themselves devoted, zelots for the teachings of the law.
They were the enforcers and teachers who presided over the nation of Israel.
On the other hand were the sinners. The ones who did not conform to the rules of the law and were rejected and cast out of the presence of the “righteous ones”
They couldn’t eat at the same table, they lived separate lives that included being looked down upon and despised.
Paul preached hard against this concept.
Galatians 1:6–9 NKJV
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
Galatians 2:15–16 NKJV
We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
Galatians 2:20 NKJV
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
What is the solution to the problem?
Jesus is the answer!
There was a reason Jesus came to earth
There was a purpose
The motive was love
The purpose was salvation
The result is restoration of mankind to God and eternal life
The purpose was to save us. but save us from what? Death and Sin
The meaning of Christmas can become lost if we don’t understand the importance of this time
Jesus came because of a lack! there was and still is a great need for Life!
Matthew 1:21–23 NKJV
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
The promise - He will save His people from their sins
Sin has been the curse upon us from the beginning
Genesis 2:8–9 NKJV

15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
The first sin was eating of the tree of the knowledge or good and evil. This is where all the trouble began.

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.
Galatians 2:20 NKJV
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
15 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; 16 yet we know that a person is not justified[b] by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Christ came not to make us good, but to give us life!
John 10:10 NKJV
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
In the Garden was the tree of life! Now Jesus is the giver of life
