Satisfied With Jesus
I’m Satisfied with Jesus
(Matthew 11:16-19)
Introduction:
We live in a world that there are not many things that we are satisfied with.
Many of us are like Solomon of old: (Things)
Example: Ecclesiastes 2
(wine, houses, orchards, trees, pools of water, servants, silver & gold, men & women singers)
Concluded: Vanity
There are a lot of things that I am not satisfied with.
I know in my own life, I need to be so much better than I am.
I wanted to be a good father (not satisfied)
I wanted to be a good husband (not satisfied)
Example: Paul (Romans 7) / Law spiritual – Carnal
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not, but what I hate, that do I.
For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil, which I would not, that I do.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I’m not satisfied and you should not be satisfied with a lot a things, but if there is anything in this world is true (right, consistent). Good tomorrow, just like it was today.
That’s the same yesterday, today, and forever.
While I am not satisfied with a lot of things, I should be satisfied with Jesus.
Text: Jesus is talking to some people who are not satisfied with anything.
Setting: John the Baptist is in prison
He’s been waiting on a Messiah for a long time.
He’s the same John (behold the Lamb of God that taken away the sins of the world)
Now, John is in prison
Many of the things that he thought might happen, have not happened.
So he sends two of his disciples to Jesus.
Jesus is out preaching and teaching. These two disciples walked up to Jesus.
Question: Are you the one, or should we look for another.
Response: Yes, I’m the one
Alpha and Omega
The beginning and the end
First and the Last
He who was, is, and is to come
Bright and morning star
Fairest of ten thousand
(Lame, Blind, Lepers)
Problem: Jesus has to straighten out the multitude
The multitude heard those disciples question Jesus.
They knew those men came from John
Jesus doesn’t want you thinking something of John that you shouldn’t think.
Read: Matthew 11:7 (reed)
You know that John is no vacillating reed.
John is nobody who is a fair weather friend
John is nobody who is hear today and gone tomorrow
John is a man of courage (won’t take back what he says for God)
Example: Herod
Read: Matthew 11:8 (Camel hair / Locust & Wild honey/ Slept under the stars)
Read: Matthew 11:9-11 (Don’t you think harshly of John)
John is no vacillating prophet
John is no prophet laying around in soft raiment.
He’s a prophet (more than a prophet) / 400 years / John is somebody
Point:
You were not satisfied with John
Read: Matthew 11:16
Explain: Children in the marketplace
Games (Church)
Two major social events: Funerals / Weddings
Read: Matthew 11:17
Comparison: Jesus and John the Baptist
John (Funeral mode)
Stayed out in the wilderness
Wearing camel hair
Eating locust and wild honey
Not associating with anybody (funeral mode)
John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Now here comes Jesus
Jesus (Wedding mode)
Attends all the social events
Associates with people
Publicans and sinners gather around him
You say (John had a devil, but Jesus (winebibber / gluttonous man, friend of publicans)
You didn’t accept John and you are not going to accept Christ.
You are not satisfied with anything
Joke: Little girl (Ritz cracker)
(Play wedding / Play funeral)
We sent John, you weren’t satisfied with him (Elias (bring to your mind all things))
You didn’t want to hear John. Here comes Jesus and you don’t want to hear Jesus.
Point:
You should be satisfied with something.
A lot of things we are not satisfied with, but you should be satisfied with something.
You should be satisfied with Jesus.
Point:
While I am not satisfied with a lot of things. I am satisfied with Jesus.
I am satisfied with the Lord’s order for the Lord’s church.
If you are satisfied with Jesus, be satisfied with the Lord’s order for the church.
Lord’s Order: Ephesians 4:7 (Christ was in the gift giving business)
Everyone of us is gifted to do something for God.
Read: Ephesians 4:8-11
