Daniel receives a vision of the succession of human empires ()

Explanation: Chapter 7 begins the second division of the book of Daniel. The first six chapters are historical narrative, told in 3rd person. These chapters are crucial to understanding the next six, and should never be skipped over. the message of integrity and character is a vital framework on which to build the apocalyptic nature of the remainder of the book
While the divisions fall neatly into category, the chapters are not chronological. The time sequence would be ch 1 -4, 7&8, 5&6, 9 -12. It is also mindful to remember that chapters 2 - 7 are written in Aramaic (for the Gentile nations) while chapters 1, 8-12 are written in Hebrew for the Jews.
The timing of Chapter 7 is dated at 553 BC, the first year of Belshazzar. The events of chapter 5 don’t occur until 14 years later.
