Eze 34:11-31. Tony van Drimmelen. In one of the most powerful metaphors in the whole Bible, we identify ourselves as sheep needing the care of a shepherd.  To the church that is paying a price for her witness in the world, elders are a wonderful means of God’s grace.  When the sheep are out there, doing the work of Jesus, the presence and power of their own shepherd is a great comfort.  Though our elders follow the example of the Chief Shepherd (1Pe 5:4), like the rest of us, they are not perfect.  God has the ultimate solution to our shepherding needs.  He sent Jesus to be our Shepherd-King.  At Christmas time we remember the Shepherd who came as the sacrificial lamb and give his life for the sheep (Rev 7:17).
