Parent Child Dedication
Parent Child Dedication
6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.
Parents, you have made three great decisions in your life. (1) Accepting Jesus as the forgiver of your sins and the leader of your life. (2) Choosing to marry your spouse. (3) Dedicating your family to the Lord’s plan and purpose.
Remember that order. Jesus first. Your spouse second and your children third. It is my prayer that nothing comes between your relationship with God and each other. It is in that environment that you should seek to raise your children in such a way as to lead them to trust Christ as Saviour and serve Him as Lord.
A Dedication of Parents and Children to the Lord (Responsive Reading)
Leader: God has entrusted you with a magnificent responsibility.
Parents: We lovingly accept this responsibility.
Church: We will help you.
Leader: God has given you the gift of life.
Parents: We will protect and nurture this gift.
Congregation: We will help you.
Leader: God expects you to teach a child through the example of a godly life.
Parents: We will strive to live lives consistent with God’s Word before our child.
Congregation: We will provide godly examples before the child as well.
Leader: A child is like a clean slate: it knows no right or wrong.
Parents: We dedicate ourselves to the teaching of the ways of Christ to our child.
Congregation: We will assist you.
All: “Praise God from whom all blessings flow.”
Prayer:
We pray that You will be their shepherd, that they will not be left in need. Lord, make them to lie down in green pastures. May You lead them beside the still waters. Restore their souls. May You lead them into paths of righteousness for Your Name’s sake. Yes, even though they will walk through the valley of the shadow of death, they will fear no evil for You are with them. May your rod and your staff comfort them. May You prepare a table before them in the presence of their enemies. May You anoint their heads with oil. May their cups run over. May goodness and mercy follow them all the days of their lives; and we pray that they will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen.
