New Creation

Do you have something to rejoice about this coming new year? We have just concluded another year of Advent; a reminder that the Christ was born and that he has brought salvation to us. Rejoice!
(NRSV)
10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Notice that the words of this scripture passage seems to be about new growth, things sprouting up. But the Lord our God is the master of creation. He made a new thing and now in this new year, if you have truly listened to His word, you are a new creation. Let your love for the Lord grow as though the spring rains have come upon you.
Zion’s Coming Salvation
Think about the coming salvation. Isaiah claims that he will not be silent about the coming great news. (NRSV)
The Vindication and Salvation of Zion
62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest,
until her vindication shines out like the dawn,
and her salvation like a burning torch.
Dawn is a very noticeable event is it not? One can also not be hidden when carrying a torch. Isaiah is saying that it is time to shout out, the day of the Lord is upon us. This is a chance to start over a new.
We all struggle in some way to be faithful. Reset is a time to realign our paths with the creation. Have you ever been lost during a long journey? Years ago I drove a semi and I was continually trusting someone to tell me where to go, but it was up to me ton follow the directions. Then I married my wife and I never have to worry about where I am going. Reset means that it is time to repent of our old ways and realign with the God of creation.
For the world we do many of these things; we make resolutions to change, to take off a few unwanted pounds, to change the way we treat our friends, or to reconnect with old friends. We are used to the event of the year but when was the last time you used the season as a time ton reset your lives to connect with the lord of life?
