JEHOVAH-SHALOM (יהוה שָׁלוֹם, yhwh shalom). The name given by Gideon to the altar he built at Ophra, in memorial to the word spoken to him by the Lord, and which means “The Lord of peace” (Judg 6:24). The representation of the name of the God of Israel as Jehovah is based on a misunderstanding of Hebrew scribal conventions.
