Intro

I believe that this church are entering into a new story. I believe that the church we see today will not be in the same place next year. I also believe that God has brought me here to help that process along. I prayed long and hard while waiting for God’s will to come to pass and I will continue to pray long and hard as we walk in it. However, I am not the same person that any of the old pastor’s were. I’m going to have different strengths and weaknesses than they had. As such, if we are going to move forward together you need to know me and I need to know you. I need to describe to you why I do the things I do.

Exp.

One of the things that all of my mentors have said in one form or another was to have a Biblical reason for everything you are doing. This means a few things. I have to be careful to not follow every whim and emotional thing that comes up. There needs to be strong biblical principals for everything I do.
As such I have decided that I will do some teachings on church leadership as it is outlined in the Bible. This is my 2nd lesson out of 1 Timothy. Paul wrote these lessons to young Pastor Tim to tell hime a few things that should be implemented as well as to tell him about the character he needs to have.
I do this series mainly for 2 reasons:
So you know why I’m doing the things I do.
So you can help keep me accountable to doing the thing I am supposed to be doing according to the Bible

PS

Let’s jump right in.

Urge

to ask for earnestly, plead, beg, compel
this “urging” is for the rest of the letter

Petitions, Prayers, Intercession

Petitions - asking God for help
Prayers - very similar, but it implies a devotion that irregardless of the response to the petition we will will serve God
We serve God because He is worthy, not because He gives us cool things
Intercession - to plead on another’s behalf. perhaps because they cannot or will not pray themselves.

For whom do we pray

All people -
Those you love
Those you hate
Kings and all those in authority
back ground - the Romans were still in charge and Paul was saying instead of being in rebellion towards them lift them up to the Lord.
Why’s
live peaceful lives - tranquility - this does not mean that the struggles are not real, but that we know that once we make the request that he will respond in His timing and in His way, and whatever that response is, we know that it is good.
Quiet lives - inner peace - peace that passes understanding.
life is hard, and there are challenges around us every day. Sometimes we want to take up arms, stomp our feet, and yell. Can I say, that never works. There has never been a time when my temper tantrum won the day.
Godliness and Holiness
Godliness - behaving as he would behave
Why is it possible to have peace and quiet in our souls when we are being Godly?
Because God has all the power, all the authority, all the knowledge, all the wisdom, and is ready will ing and able to do great things all the time. We are on His side and He is on ours. ‘
Holiness - with reverence to Him.
It is good
It pleases God
He wants all to be save
he wants all to come to a saving knowledge of the truth
There is one God
There is one mediator between God and Man
That mediator is Jesus
He paid all the penalty

Why we Minister

To herald (preacher, proclaimer)
apostle (leader of those who lead)
true and faithful teacher of Gentiles
those really unworthy

Conclusion
