Gilgal
Look Back Before Moving Forward
Gilgal was the first stop Joshua made after crossing the Jordan (4:4-6)
We need to anchor our minds and hearts in God’s overwhelming track record. (Heb.)
We need to look back at all God has done for us!
What if we stopped each hour to praise God and thank Him for all He has done.
Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
To experience a spirit led life each day to achieve all that God desires for us and has created us to be, we need to learn the first lesson of Gilgal is to be happy in God because of HIS faithfulness.
We will face challenges on our journey but they should not be our focus.
Instead let us set memorial stones in our lives of God’s faithfulness and look at them when tempted to worry at the sight of challenge.
fulness and look at them when tempted to worry at the sight of challenge.
Don’t try to Move Forward in Disobedience
- circumcision
Living in the wilderness, the people had stopped doing what God had commanded concerning circumcision. God stopped the Israelites from advancing until they straightened out their disobedience.
Joshua had the entire camp circucised
What did God say?
And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” And so the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day.
Hebrew word for Gilgal sounds like word for roll or rolling.
What are some instances in the Bible where God meets people where they are at?
Did they stay there?
The Blood Sacrifice Must Always Remain Central
While the people of Israel were encamped at Gilgal, they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening on the plains of Jericho. And the day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain.
Joshua 5:10-11
