Luke passed over some very familiar elements of the Christmas story.

He tells us nothing about the wise men.

He tells us nothing about Herod and the slaughter of the innocence.

He tells us nothing about the little family escaping into Egypt.

Instead of all of that information, which, of course, is left to Matthew to tell, Luke looks at eyewitnesses, corroborating the identity of the child through faithful testimony.

Luke Gives us some creditable “Eye Witnesses “

The Presentation/ Wait for the Presentation

His parents
Simenon

Covenant Keeper’s

Luke 2:21 ESV
And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
L
Mary and Joseph carried out the pronouncement of the angel by naming their Son according to the word which had come to her before the Baby’s conception
and to him after the Baby’s conception ().
The name Jesus is very fitting for it is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Joshua which means “Yahweh is salvation” .
Mary and Joseph’s offering. 2:22–24. The couple was required by the Law not only to have Jesus circumcised (), but also to present their firstborn to God (, ) 33 days later and to bring an offering for Mary’s purification after childbirth ().
The Covenant of Circumcision
As was the custom, Jesus was circumcised on the eighth day (), perhaps in Bethlehem.
Note that the word law is used five times in verses 21–40. Five is the number of Grace , this is when Law meets grace
John 1:17 ESV
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 3:17
Though He came to deliver His people from the bondage of the Law, Jesus was “made under the Law” and obeyed its commands ().
He did not come to destroy the Law but to fulfill it
Psalm 85:10 KJV 1900
Mercy and truth are met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Luke 2:22 ESV
And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
The Ceremony of purification: This was a ceremony that Mary had to go through after the birth of a Male child a woman was considered unclean for 40 days. 80 days for a female
she could work around the house and engage in normal activities but she couldn't take place in religious ceremonies, she was righteously that is ceremonial unclean.
After her time was up she had to make an offering in the temple
They came for two reasons, Purification= 5 sheckes ransom price.excused from the priesthood but providing a contribution to the priesthood
The Covenant of Dedication = A male child was to be presented
And then in verses 22–24 when they came to the temple, they came to do two things, really. They came for purification and they came to pay a five shekel … five shekels of silver ransom price. Every firstborn male had to be given to the Lord. You just sort of offered him to the Lord for the Lord’s service. You didn’t have to go to the temple to do that, but while they were there they went beyond that, as we saw last week … and I’ll tell you what I mean by that.
It was not required that you would take your child to the temple and present him to the Lord. He was the firstborn and He was offered to the Lord in a special way to serve the Lord, but that wasn’t done at the temple. That was a very unusual thing to do, indicating that they went above and beyond because they understood who this child was. In a very real sense they’re saying … this isn’t even our child, we have to come and give Him to You. They must have felt certainly at least like Hannah did back in and 2 when given the child Samuel she realized the Lord had caused a miracle to happen so that she could conceive and have a child.

So it is clear to us that Joseph and Mary by what they did indicate their affirmation of the identity of the child. Nothing in the circumcision indicates this is the Messiah, every Jewish boy had that. Nothing in the purification indicates that this is the Messiah, all the Jewish who had a boy would do that. Nothing in the presentation of the five shekel ransom price would indicate this is the Messiah. But taking Him to the temple, naming Him Jesus, presenting Him to the Lord were their clear testimonies as to the identity of this child

and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”
The offering which they presented for her purification showed that they were a poor couple. They could not afford a lamb, so they bought a pair of doves or pigeons, which were all they could afford. They traveled the short distance from Bethlehem to Jerusalem for the presentation and purification at the temple.

The Components of Someone who hears God
Luke 2:25 ESV
Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
Luke 2:
Simeon = Hearkening. Hearing with acceptance; hears and obeys; an obeyer; hearing; (root = to hear).
Simeon and Anna, like Zacharias and Elizabeth, were a part of the faithful Jewish remnant that eagerly looked for their Messiah (). Because of his readiness and eagerness to die (), Simeon is usually pictured as a very old man, but nothing in Scripture supports this. Tradition says he was 113 years old, but it is only tradition.
He was a just and devout man=
The word just means righteous, well behaved, living as one should live.
+
He was a man that treated other people as he should: JUSTLY
Devout means cautious and careful in relation to God. It means reverence for God
Simeon was very careful in his relation towards God
*He was a man that looked for the coming of the Messiah : faithful believers among the Jews felt that Isreal could find consolation only in the Messiah.
They longed and ached with all hope and patience for His Coming
Consolation: Comfort: encouragement = the act of giving relief or comfort in affliction
“The consolation of Israel” means the messianic hope. One of the traditional Jewish prayers is, “May I see the consolation of Israel!” That prayer was answered for Simeon when he saw Jesus Christ in the temple. He was a man who was led by the Spirit of God, taught by the Word of God, and obedient to the will of God; and therefore he was privileged to see the salvation of God. How important it is for people to see God’s salvation, Jesus Christ, before they see death.
Interesting little note here. You see the word “consolation,” that really refers to Messiah. The only one who could bring the consolation is the consoler. The only one who could bring the paraklesis to help or the comfort, is the comforter and the helper. And it is Messiah.

Luke 2:29 ESV
“Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word;
Now he is ready to die! The word depart in the Greek has several meanings, and each of them tells us something about the death of a Christian.
It means to release a prisoner, to untie a ship and set sail, to take down a tent (see ), and to unyoke a beast of burden (see ).
God’s people are not afraid of death because it only frees us from the burdens of this life and leads into the blessings of the next life.
