2 Corinthians 9:15 HCSB
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.

God is generous in Common Grace

2 Corinthians 9:10 HCSB
Now the One who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

God’s generosity encourages us

2 Corinthians 9:11 HCSB
You will be enriched in every way for all generosity, which produces thanksgiving to God through us.

Our Generosity encourages others.

2 Corinthians 9:12–14 HCSB
For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many acts of thanksgiving to God. They will glorify God for your obedience to the confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with others through the proof provided by this service. And they will have deep affection for you in their prayers on your behalf because of the surpassing grace of God in you.

God’s Generosity leads to worship

2 Corinthians 9:15 HCSB
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.
Thanks is the word “charis” or grace- here it is used as an expression of gratitude
Gift is “dorea” It is used 11 times in the Bible and EVERY TIME it is a gift that God is giving… salvation… the Holy Spirit.... heaven… And in this case I believe it Jesus Himself, the source of all of God’s Gospel Gifts!
But let me focus on one final word
Indescribable…
When I am studying what a word in the Bible means I like to look at other places where it us used.... but this word is unique.. It is not used anywhere else in the Bible… and that is pretty important.
When Paul wanted to get us thinking about How Big God’s Gift of Jesus was, he used a word to describe the indescribable that is so unique it only shows up once in the whole Bible.
I believe that as Paul really contemplated the truly extraordinary gift of God giving His Son, the more he thought about it the more it welled up in his heart until this expression of praise shouted from His mouth.
How do we describe what God has done in sending His Son?
When the Father longed to show The love He wanted us to know He sent His only Son and so Became a holy embryo
Chorus That is the Mystery More than you can see Give up on your pondering And fall down on your knees
No fiction as fantastic and wild A mother made by her own child A hopeless babe who cried Was God Incarnate and man deified Because the fall did devastate Creator must now recreate So to take our sin Was made like us so we could be like him
