We all have an appetite
To have an appetite is to be living or at least living vivaciously.
An appetite is the number one sign of something being alive.
Dead people or animals don’t have an appetite.
They are not hungry.
Not only do we have an appetite/hunger, but we all fill that hunger or appetite.
We fill it with good things, and bad things.
We hunger for popularity, for approval, for self-accomplishment.
We have an appetite not only for ourselves, but for our kids.
We want them
Your appetite is the number 1 thing you pass on to your kids, it’s the number 1 thing that influences others around you.
Because based on what you talk about, how you spend your time, what you spend your money on, people see that it is what you are hungry for.
Jesus is talking about 2 kingdoms here.
And he is informing us, that in his kingdom, what the members of his kingdom hunger for, what they have an appetite for is, righteousness.
Imitation Gospel
After we recognize our need for righteousness.
After we hunger and thirst, there is a temptation to fall into a false gospel or an imitation gospel.
To fill our schedule with things that appear good, but at the root are all still about us.
Could talk about Taco Bell.
There is a big difference between “Have to” and “get to.”
If you feel like with God you always “have to” that it always up to you, it could be a warning sign that you are trying to earn your identity.
1 caveat is that there are times where we have to do things.
Where God asks us to do things that we don’t really want to do.
However, even in those things, there is a shift from I have to do this in order for got to love me, and I get to.
Introduce identity triangle.
