Right now kids are about to explode with excitement. I remember how I could never seem to get to sleep on Christmas Eve. I never remember actually getting sleepy so I believe my parents drugged me.
Waiting is the hardest part of Christmas.
Things we wait for:
32 minutes whenever they visit a doctor
28 minutes in security lines whenever they travel
21 minutes for a significant other to get ready to go out
13 hours annually waiting on hold for a customer service
38 hours each year waiting in traffic
those living in Big cities wait in traffic more than 50 hours annually
= about 37 billion hours each year waiting in line somewhere
Human beings spend approximately 6 months of their lives waiting in line for things.
We’ll only wait for so long:
Shhh somebody in a movie theater 1 minute and 52 seconds

Ask somebody talking loudly on a cell phone to “keep it down” 2 minutes and 25 seconds

We hate to wait and we live in a world that is geared toward making sure that doesn’t happen.

Instant food (I saw a food item that took 10min in microwave - I was outraged)
When something in our lives takes time, we struggle with the wait.
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
“Fullness of time”
There was a long wait for Jesus to arrive
400 years of silence between Malachi and Gospels
Glory of God departed more than 100 years earlier
What/who are you waiting for?

I know my kids are waiting for presents tomorrow.
What to do in the wait?
psychologists say that we fell as though the wait is less when we are occupied during the time of our wait.
ILLUST - bank installed screens in line with information and entertainment so people could watch while waiting. People believed they waited less.
We can spend out time thinking about the wait or thinking about worship.

(our longing can have us give in to cheap substitutes that never truly work)
God knows exactly what we need.

God knew your deepest need before you were even born.
