For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit. For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace,
“Outlook” - a habitual or characteristic mental attitude that determines how you will interpret and respond to situations (from Vocabulary.com Dictionary)
The outlook that is fashioned or shaped by life experiences leads to death.

Death
in the bible isn’t just physical death. It also means a state of existence or a place where there is nothing that God gives.
Interpret:
Another thing coming to hurt me
More trouble coming my way
Out to get me
Want the worst for me
Respond:
Put up walls
Keep people out
Shut doors
Death is:
a dead end road.
no good end
no hope
misery and dejection
If I hold on to what the flesh puts in me, then I have death - nothing good from God.
“Life” is, in turn, ALL that God gives and brings: vitality, exuberance, joy,

But you don’t know where I come from PT. I have no choice - its all I’ve ever known.
I can’t change
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live
What are you going to hook your wagon to? Flesh or God
You are not “locked in”
You get to choose
Hebrew children had had their share of “fleshly shaping”:
Unfaithful fathers
Parents and siblings taken before their time
Hunger
Thirst
Futility
Hear it now: “When are we going to get there?” “This trip is taking forever!” “Are we close?”
Yet here was Moses telling them they had a choice.
AND YOU HAVE A CHOICE TODAY AS WELL!
CHANGE YOUR MIND TO CHANGE YOUR CHOICE
Flesh Outlook on God
Flesh Outlook on God
Many see God as the stern, almost vengeful, father. One who is quick with discipline and likes to withhold good things from His children. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Think of how often he allowed Israel to come back. And all He has ever done is let you walk the path you have chosen .
Let’s consider an example:

on time in desert: only gave us manna and water. Let us wander aimlessly for all this time. Made us carry this box, tent and all the other furnishings. Left us out here for 40 years.
where your ancestors tested and tried me,
though for forty years they saw what I did.

Food right there for us each day. Never got thirsty. Was with us - right here in our midst - each and every day. Could have killed off the unbelievers instantly. Instead, He gave you 40 more years with your families.
He led them out of Egypt and performed wonders and signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the wilderness.
Its what you CHOOSE to see. Its your OUTLOOK.
What is your relationship with God?

Fruitless
Fear
Intimidation
Its time to change your outlook.
Here’s what HE says about it:

But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.
What does that mean? (1st blank)
You are chosen by God.
That means he PICKED YOU OUT OF THE CROWD.
Not many of you who do grocery shopping just pick the fruit and vegetables off the top of the pile. You pick them up, you look at them, and you CHOOSE the ones you want.
Not everyone in this world will spend eternity with God. But you were CHOSEN to do so.
DECLARATION: I declare that I am hand picked by God. I am not an afterthought. I am not second. He has made me the head and not the tail. I am special to Him.
Here’s the second thing He says about you:
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
(2nd blank):
You were chosen to be adopted by Him.
Adoption isn’t automatic. It is a process - a process to bring it about and then the process changes your birthright.
Prospective parents: prepare home, go through the paperwork
Adopted child: acclimate, name change, rights change
DECLARATION: I declare that God has selected me out of the crowd to make me his very own and to give me a very special place in Him. I understand that becoming fully His is a process that I must go through and I will do so with joy, hope and confidence.
Here’s the third thing He says:
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
You were chosen to become His child through that adoption.
Adoption makes you a child on par with other birth children. God has only one birth child: Jesus himself.

DECLARATION: I declare that I am a child of God with special access to His favor, presence and protection. I call Him Daddy and He responds with love and faithfulness.
If you have been adopted and are now His child, then
Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
So here’ your next blank:
You were chosen to be His heir.
An heir is in line for a share of the estate.
Here’s the neat thing about this: you were chosen!!
In Louisiana we have no choice until they’re 23. But in other places they don’t have to leave anything.
How would you like to be chosen by Bill Gates to inherit
God CHOSE you!
DECLARATION: I declare that I am an heir of Almighty God who is the Creator of the Universe and the owner of ALL things. Since I am an heir to the King of Kings, I have power and dominion over the devil.
Here’s the last one:
We live within the shadow of the Almighty, sheltered by the God who is above all gods.
This I declare, that he alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him.
As a chosen child, made heir to riches so great no one could ever imagine them, I have a right to draw near to Daddy. I have a right to live and dwell in His presence
As a chosen child and heir, you live under the constant protection of God and angels.
Don’t believe that angels are there to protect you? Look at this text:
If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.
For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
DECLARATION: I declare that the Lord is my refuge and my shelter - I live under His protection and nothing can harm me. When danger comes near, I know that angels will be there to lift me and carry me through.
