We always talk about Scripture, but what can we really get out of this? What does Scripture even mean? What is the benefit of reading the Bible or doing work with Scripture, studying, memorizing, etc?
We always talk about Scripture, but what can we really get out of this? What does Scripture even mean? What is the benefit of reading the Bible or doing work with Scripture, studying, memorizing, etc?
Scripture is defined as words that were divinely inspired and written by man. God did not directly move man to write like a secretary, but God put the message into someone’s head, and the Holy Spirit moved them to write it down. Writings have to go through a very strict criteria before they are considered Scripture. This is usually done by leading scholars and priests/church leaders who look over them for months and even years, studying them, cross-referencing them, and comparing them to other writings that were already considered divine. Then they get together and vote on whether this meets the criteria. However, this was already done hundreds and even thousands of years ago, and churches now look at the Bible as complete. Now it would be very hard to be considered a new scripture, and many things have been considered just since the time of Jesus. Some as recently as within the last ten years, but nothing has been added to the Bible since 200 AD, so that should give you an idea how hard it would be for considering a new addition. Now the Bible is pretty well set and just about everyone agrees that what we have is genuinely the Word of God.
What about the value that comes from Scripture? Look at 2 Tim 3:16-17. This is a prefect example of why we need to read and learn the Bible.

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
When you read the Bible the Holy Spirit will move you and you should feel better, more fulfilled and more loving. This is the Holy Spirit working in you and moving you down the road of sanctification. The Bible has many verses about why we should read the Bible:
“Be very strong and continue obeying all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that you do not turn from it to the right or left
The revelation of Your words brings light
and gives understanding to the inexperienced.
Until I come, give your attention to public reading, exhortation, and teaching.
For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart. No creature is hidden from Him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.
What we see is that by learning we are worshiping God and at the same time, feeding our soul and Holy Spirit. This will make us feel better and stronger, and will give us assurance that God is there for us and bless us as the Bible says.
Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
The Lord is for me; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is my helper,
Therefore, I will look in triumph on those who hate me.
There are many other verses to be looked at, but the message is always that God loves us, so much that
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
