Bottom line- Having connection with who you are praying to is more important than what you are praying about.

-Story of my grandma’s funeral

Our Father, in Heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Intro-Talk about Journals and a big picture of FOCUS
Why is prayer so difficult and mysterious?
What did Jesus have to say about prayer?

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“ ‘Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

10 your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, s

but deliver us from the evil one.’

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“ ‘Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

10 your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, s

but deliver us from the evil one.’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

“This, then, is how you should pray:
“ ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Give some background on Sermon on the Mount and the Lord’s prayer....
And forgive us our debts,

Hallowed...or holy...set apart. Uncommon.

as we also have forgiven our debtors.
-Since He is holy and set apart…make plans to set aside time to talk to Him
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’

Our Father, in Heaven, hallowed be Your name.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. "

Our father...abba...dadda

-sick Gideon (my son) his cries for me his father and hands raise...his requests always start with just calling me dada.

Having connection with who you are praying to is more important than what you are praying about.

Accepting your adoption as a son or daughter of the Father is the first step in prayer.

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.

Accepting your adoption as a son or daughter of the Father is the first step in prayer as a disciple.

We find freedom in prayer to our father

6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

your praise; may the whole world be freed from injustice, disfigurement, sin, and death, and
may your name be hallowed. And as we stand in the presence of the living God with the
darkness and pain of the world on our hearts, praying that he will fulfill his ancient promises,
and implement the victory of Calvary and Easter for the whole cosmos – then we may discover that our own pain, our own darkness, is somehow being dealt with as well.͟ – NT Wright
“It is a liberating expression before God. It is faith in action, focused on the future rather than on a restoration of the past. His Kingdom is to come now, His will is to be done now, for piety is not our work but is God working in and through us.” -Mryon Agsburger “The Communicators Commentary
-Since He is holy and set apart…make plans to set aside time to talk to Him

Having connection with you who are praying to is more important than what you are praying about.

The main purpose of prayer is not to make life easier, nor to gain magical powers, but to know God. I need God more than anything I might get from God. - Philip Yancey

So what’s your 2018 prayer plan?

-when are you going to do it?

Father; Our Father; Our Father in heaven; Our Father in heaven, may your name be honoured. That is, may you be worshipped by your whole creation; may the whole cosmos resound with your praise; may the whole world be freed from injustice, disfigurement, sin, and death, and may your name be hallowed. And as we stand in the presence of the living God with the darkness and pain of the world on our hearts, praying that he will fulfill his ancient promises, and implement the victory of Calvary and Easter for the whole cosmos – then we may discover that our own pain, our own darkness, is somehow being dealt with as well. - NT Wright
