Temptation
1 Yield not to temptation,
For yielding is sin;
Each vict’ry will help you,
Some other to win;
Fight valiantly onward,
Evil passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus,
He will carry you through.
I love that Hymn, Especially when it gets to the chorus.
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.
We dont like to talk about temptation because many see temptation as signals to failure.
Yet the truth of the matter is we all face temptations in life.
We must look at temptations as an opportunity for another victory.
When we are faced with temptations and don’t give in we have another notch of victory on us.
reminds us 2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
That is translated like this: Count it all joy, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Temptation to be tempted, to be put to test,
As Jesus begins his earthly ministry at the age of 30 he is led into the wilderness full of the Holy Spirit by the Spirit.
He is led to the wilderness to be tempted.
This word tempted is the word peirazo means to be put to test.
What test would the Son of God need?
Its the same test we face everyday.
Will we rely on God for all our needs?
David said the Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.
He express complete reliance on the Lord.
As David expressed in the 23rd psalm Jesus is led to the wilderness to be test will he rely on God for all his needs.
When we are facing trials and tribulations or temptations we can learn lessons from Jesus.
First we must Allow the Holy Spirit to lead us
And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil.
And he ate nothing during those days.
And when they were ended, he was hungry.
After jesus was baptised and the heaven spoke concerning him 3:22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Even Jesus needed the power of the holy spirit.
It descended on him and gave all who witnessed confirmation that Jesus was the Son of God.
This is my beloved son.
Also it gave Jesus conformation that God is with him.
Have you thought about the power you have through the Holy Spirit?
The holy Spirit confirms to us and others who we are.
Jesus told the disciples to to go to Jerusalem and the would receive power.
Paul told the Philippians you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
This strength comes through the Holy Spirit.
The one Jesus promised when he said I will send you a comforter.
When you are Full of the Holy Spirit and led by the Holy Spirit you can handle every thing the devil throws at you.
We wither too soon.
We retreat to quickly.
You need to be unapologetic about who you are.
You are a Child of God.
What does that mean.
It means God shall supply all your needs, He will be your protection, He will be your sustainer, He will be your restorer.
How can attest God reminds me of who I am so I am not worried.
Secondly Use your tools properly
James said resist the devil and he shall flee.
beforre he said that he said submit to God.
Howe do we do that.
We do that by knowing the will of God.
We learn the will of God by studying his word.
His word is our weapon.
Jesus did not argue with the Devil.
He us scripture.
Look at verse 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’
” Jesus countered the Devil request to make bread of a stone with Duet 8:3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.
The devil was tempting Jesus to show his power for his own satisfaction and glory.
He could have done this simple thing of turning a stone into bread.
After all he uses 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread and fed 5000 men plus women and children.
Jesus God in the flesh yet he must be restrained and not just show off his power.
This would have pleased the devil.
Jesus operating outside the will of God is the devil greatest pleasure.
The same for us the devil gets pleasure seeing us operate outside the will of God.
When we try to do stuff on our own and not rely on God gets us in trouble and has the devil smiling because he knows its a dead end road.
How don’t care how many degrees we have or how much money we have or any thing we rely on to make us feel better we still cant do anything without God.
Jesus said man shall not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord!
I need to know the Gods word and what it says concerning me.
He didn’t stop there 5 And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6 and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will.
7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.”
8 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’
” It is the LORD your God you shall fear.
Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.
“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God,
Then he went even further
9 And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, 10 for it is written, “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and him only shall you serve.’
”
“ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,
to guard you,’ 11 and “ ‘On their hands they will bear you up,
11 and
“ ‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’
”
12 And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’
