001 Parable the lost sinner

Intro: Have you ever been lost? I mean really lost to the point you could not help yourself? Being lost is when you cannot find your way and you need help.
ILL. Church meeting…could not find the church…called said we are right across the street…I was lost I couldn’t find my way.
Being lost means you are in a helpless dangerous life and death situation
ILL. Being stuck on the winter road…knew the way just needed help getting there.
Luke 19:10 KJV 1900
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Those that are spiritual lost in their sin. Those that because of their sin have been seperated from their Creator and cannot find their way.
Chapter 15 takes place towards the end of the ministry of Jesus.
In  And there went great multitudes with him:… there were great crowds of people gather around the Lord Jesus wanting to hear His teaching

I. v. 1 All Publicans and sinners
A. Publicans were the Jewish tax collectors
They were collecting tax for the Roman Goverment
They were considered traders among the Jewish population
They were look at as thieves because they were taking money from their Jewish brothers and many cases they more then romans asked for and pocketed it.
B. Sinners
Those that are living apart from God
Those that disregard God’s law
Those that live an immoral life, adulters, prostitutes, liers, thieves, and murders.
C. It that they all drew near to Jesus why?
He has the Words of hope.
He Word is true
Because He like no other shows compassion and mercy upon all men
D. They drew near to Him
 “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you”
This is what repentance is, turning from your sin and coming to God.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
People often say, where is God, why has He left me, it not that He left you, you left Him.
II. v. 2 Pharisees and scribes
A. Pharisees
1. A Jewish religious party whose members required a very strict adherence to the ritual law and to the traditions of their predecessors. They were hostile to the teaching of Jesus Christ, which they regarded as compromising their interpretation of the law.

B. Scribes:
1. Experts in the understanding and study of the law of Moses. Scribes had political power in NT times, and sat on the Sanhedrin. They were also referred to as lawyers and teachers of the law. They opposed Jesus Christ, who condemned their hypocrisy.

C. They were religious
Religion is mans way of coming to God
Religion says you must do something to please God
Religion says man determines what must be done to please God.
But Religion is not God’s way.
God’s way is belief in who He is
When Adam and Eve sinned, God didn’t say you need to find some way to fix our relationship.
D. They murmmered about Jesus receiving sinners
In responce to the Pharisees and Scribes He tells 3 parables we will look at the first two.

III. vv. 3-7 Lost Sheep
A. v. Why would he leave the 99, because that 1 sheep even through he wondered off on his own accord was important to the shepherd.
It was his job to care for his sheep
B. Jesus is called the good Shepherd
John 10:11 KJV 1900
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
He came down to this world to search for His lost sheep

C. When He found it He laid it upon His shoulders and carried it back

IV. vv. 8-10 Lost Coin
A. It was common among Jewish women to wear ten coins headdress
could of been her dowry she was saving for marriage
worth about a days wage
B. Beautiful example of of Jesus being the Light of the world
C. Coin had Cesars image stamp on it

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
V. Application
This parable shows the love that God has for you

not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

a. It is a love the God showed us
b. It is a love that sacerfical
ii. God rejoices in those that repent and are found
No one should ever be afraid to come to God for it brings joy not only to our God, but heaven
