Teach Sound Doctrine

2 But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. 2 Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. 3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

Context - the Why of Paul’s letter to Titus.

for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life

Set things in order and appoint Elders in every town as Paul had directed.

Challenge of false teachers who affirm a kind of Christianity that professes to know God, but isn’t accompanied by appropriate Works that affirm the outworking of their faith in the real world.

Older Men:

Men always need to go first. Body of Christ - lots of spiritual women - few men

Value of their leadership is based on their character.

Sober Minded - clear headed, vigilant

Dignified - seriousness of purpose, easy to respect

Self-controlled - self-mastery

Sound in faith - healthy faith - healthy doctrine

Love - not bitter of vindictive

Steadfastness - patience, endurance that bears the trials of life

Older Women

likewise - similar deportment as the men

- reverent behavior, the way they live. manner of life. the conduct of older women must reveal that they regard life as sacred in all it’s aspects. Whole-Life Disciples.

- not gossips, slanderers. or drunkards - too much wine and loose tongues tend to go together.

Teach what is good. Personal example and Word. focus on encouraging and teaching younger women, singles or newly married.

Love husbands and children

Self-controlled & Pure (both sexlife - heart & mind)

Be busy at home - KJV - keepers at home.

Pure

Subject to their husbands
