Honor for the words of God

Psalm 119:1–16 ESV
1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! 2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, 3 who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! 4 You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. 5 Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! 6 Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. 7 I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. 8 I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me! 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. 12 Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes! 13 With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. 14 In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. 16 I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.

Baptist Faith & Message 2000
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

Inerrant or Infallible

o Infallible – It will not fail believers who trust in it for guidance, but it has many errors.
o Inerrant – God's, by the Holy Spirit inspired authors to write His truth and therefore it is without any measure of error.

A. What does the Bible say about itself?

In the words of Christ

a) "Have you not read the scripture?"
b) Read
(1) Sadducees tried to trick Jesus with hypothetical story of a widow who marries her brother in law (as was custom) He dies and she marries the next brother in line. He dies also. In fact, this happens seven times. So they asked Jesus, "In the resurrection, who's wife will she be?" Jesus replies "You are wrong because you neither know the scriptures or the power of God."
(a) You don't know the scriptures – Can't imagine a more powerful testimony than that.
c) Read (after resurrection Jesus appears to them.)
(1) Everything written about me … must be fulfilled
(a) Jesus gave us a measuring rod
(b) EVERYTHING written … (in scripture)… MUST come true.
d) Read
(1) Jesus opened their minds to understand scripture
(a) Christ should suffer and rise on the 3rd day (b) Repentance proclaimed in His name (c) I AM SENDING THE PROMISE OF MY FATHER UPON YOU.

In the words of Paul

a) Read
(1) All scripture
(2) Breathed out by God

Breathed out by God - {Theopneustos}

(a) Only used once in any Greek text. (b) Paul wanted to stress the unique authority of scripture (c) NOTICE: Scripture is inspired and not the authors.
(i) Good for teaching, reproof, correction, etc.
(ii) You don't NEED me to know God.
