Ministered… and fasted

Spirit-filled Christians are especially sensitive to the communication of the Holy spirit probably came through a prophetic utterance

Paul and Barnabas were called into the missionary service and were commissioned by the church at Antioch; The nature of this work is described in these scriptures (see below)

1 .Paul an Barnabas were called to preach the gospel, bringing men and women into a saving relationship with Christ.

Scripture nowhere indicates that the N.T. missionaries were sent out into the world to do social or political work, i.e., to propagate the gospel and establish churches by embarking on all sorts of organized social and political activities for the benefit of the people of Roman empire.

Their goal was to bring people to Christ, deliver them from the power of satan, cause the Holy Spirit to come upon them, and establish them in churches.

In these new Christians, the holy spirit came to live and manifest himself through love; he gave spiritual gifts and transformed them from within so that their lives would bring glory to their living savior.

2. Missionaries of the gospel today ought to be devoted to the same kind of activity; to minister and witness to the gospel, bringing others to Christ by delivering them from the dominion of satan, making them disciples, encouraging them to receive the holy spirit and his gifts and teaching them to observe all that Christ commanded.

Accompanying this should be signs and wonders, the healing of the sick and deliverance for those oppressed by demons.

this supreme task of preaching the gospel, however, should also include personal acts of love, mercy, and kindness to those in need.

In this way, all those called to bear witness to the gospel will model ministry after Jesus read note)

with this passage beings the great missionary movement “unto the uttermost part of the earth ().

The missionary principles described in ch 13 are a model of all missionary sending churches

Missionary activity is initiated by the Holy Spirit through spiritual leaders who are deeply devoted to the Lord and his kingdom, seeking him with prayer and fasting.

The church must be sensitive to the prophetic ministry and activity of the Holy Spirit and his guidance.

Missionaries who go out must do so under the specific call and will of the Holy Spirit

By prayer and fasting, constantly seeking to aligned with the will of the Holy Spirit, the church confirms that God has called certain individuals to missionary work.

the goal is that the church send out only those whom the Holy Spirit...

Through the laying on of hands and the sending out of missionaries, the church indicates her commitment to the support and encouragement of those who go out.

the responsibility of the sending church includes: sending the missionaries on their way with love and in a manner worthy of God, praying fo them and giving them financial support, including the offerings of love for their needs.

Missionaries are considered an extension of purpose, concern, and mission of the sending.

Those who go out as missionaries must be willing to hazard their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ ( )
