Introduction
Story Line
When God begins a journey, He always has an end in mind.
When God begins a journey, He always has an end in mind.
1 Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, 2 the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.” 3 And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.”
2 Sam
This journey for Israel was a long ordeal stretching over many generations to get them to this point. This was the first time that they were really settled in their own place.
Abraham’s journey with God was unclear.
He was a nomad living in tents.
The command is clear as mud. “Go and I will show.”
4 But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, 5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: Would you build me a house to dwell in?
6 I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling.
2 Sam 7
2 Sam
Moses’ journey with God had an end.
They were still nomads moving around and living out of tents.
They had a specific place to go now, The promised land.
The command was simple “Possess and I will bless.”
Their lack of faith caused them to wonder around.
If you are unwilling to begin the journey of faith you will never see the end that God has planned for you.
If you don’t begin the journey on faith, you will never see the end that God has planned for you.
If you don’t begin the journey on faith, you will never see the end that God has planned for you.
Joshua’s journey with God was the fight of the flesh against the Spirit.
Faith will always defeat the enemies in the land
The command was simple “Be courageous and conquer.”
There was no time to settle in until the lane was secure.
Israel’s journey with God was always in a tent.
7 In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?” ’
2 Sam 7:7
Transient: We might stay, we might not
Temporary: no roots. The next generation may or may not be here.
4 But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, 5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: Would you build me a house to dwell in?
2 Sam 7:4
6 I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling.
2 Sam 7:6
So, Reliant’s journey started out the same.
Transient: Moving from place to place. All the time ask God where he wanted us to be.
Temporary: Not sure where our home would be.
When God establishes a place for his people he builds a legacy for His glory.
When God establishes a place for his people he builds a legacy for His glory.
When God establishes a place for his people he builds a legacy for His glory.
10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly,
Just when you think you have done something for the Lord you find it was his plan all along.
This would be the place that God would establish His people.
This would be the place that God blessed all nations of the world.
This is the City of David, Bethlehem, where Jesus was born.
God has established Reliant in this place.
It was not the place I chose. It was the place that God has led us too.
I believe God is making a legacy for His glory right here.
From this place we will effect the world with gospel message of Jesus.
God always establishes a Legacy through his people.
When we focus on the Lord’s house He promises to take care of our house.
When we focus on the Lord’s house He promises to take care of our house.
11 from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house.
13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
When we build a legacy for the Lord’s house he take care of our house.
Jesus said it this way:
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matt
