Introduction
Bible is God’s Word.
Millions of lives changed by both its message and its author.
For millions it is most beloved book. For billions it is most hated book.
Million of attempts have been made to destroy the bible, but all have failed.
In AD 303 Dio-cletian, emperor of Rome set out to destroy all copies of the bible and all christians who possessed one.
thousands of men woman and children were martyred and after a 4 year campaign of death, he felt he he had succeeded.
He erected a column in Rome which still stands and had the words Extincto Nomine Christianorium engraved. :”The Name of Christ is extinguished)
yet in 6 years time a new Roman Emperor, Constantine would rise to the throne and would declare himself a christian, set up a commission of scribes to make as many copies of the bible as possible and spread christianity arounbd the world.
Extincto Nomeine Dio-cletian!!!
The Bible remains because of a Promise:
For the next few weeks we will
7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord,
Thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
The bible remains because Jesus Christ lives and He is the Word made flesh.
He “Watches over His word”
Lets begin todays Sermon:
Jesus: The Final Word.
Jesus: The Final Word.
What we i mean by that?
By final, i mean last. Jesus is God’s last word to us. Jesus is the final word in all of God’s communication and revelation. There is nothing else left to say that Jesus has not said.
The bible is complete and is the final or last authority in all matter of faith and practice.
That means that no one can add to it or remove from it.
The idea that Jesus is not God’s final word is how cults and sects come into existence.
people like
Joseph Smith - mormonism
Charles Russel - JW
Christian Science
all have this one believe in common - Jesus is not God’s final Word.
Lets go into scripture and see the truth.
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Jesus is God’s last Word in Communication
Jesus is God’s last Word in Communication
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
God spoke at various time, in different ays and to various people.
This is referring to the Old Testament Prophets.
The prophets worked like people putting together a puzzle.
but they were given one or two peaces at various time and were also not given the box which shows what the picture looks like.
look at peace, look at box and see where it fits.
prophets and OT did not work like that.
The prophets did not see how or where some of the peaces fitted together.
A virgin here, a suffering servant here, a king of glory on this side, a pouring out of the holy Spirit down here, a holy priesthood up there.
They had bits of a story but could see how it all fitted together.
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Then Jesus came.
The coming, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus was God giving us the puzzle box and filling in all gaps that were left at the close of the dispensation of the Law.
Jesus showed us how it all fitted together in himself.
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Jesus completed the puzzle as it were.
Not: COMPLETED - there is not a piece missing.
Jesus is God’s final Word in Salvation
Jesus is God’s final Word in Salvation
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Note: “by Himself purged our sins” - make clean, wash away.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
This cannot be stressed enough.
“We can all get to heaven without health, without wealth, without fame, without learning, without culture, without beauty, without friends, without ten thousand things. But we can never get to Heaven without Christ”
Corrie ten Boom
We must come to the point where we believe and trust in the biblical fact that Jesus and Jesus alone is the author and finisher pf our salvation.
When we do we will cast our burdens to him, we will throw ourselves to him, we will put all our trust in him, we will transfer all our confidence to him.
Our joy will be in Him, our hope will be in him, our life will be in him, our peace will be in him.
Church, forsake self righteousness. Forsake religion. Forsake human wisdom, forsake hypocrisy!
Fall upon Jesus.
How can we trust him so much?
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Jesus is the express image of his person.
That is literally “Jesus is the imprint of God’s nature”.
3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Jesus is a miracle.
God - Huge
31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades,
Or loose the bands of Orion?
22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth,
And the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers;
That stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain,
And spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
God, imprinted - it means to press into mould.
If i take a coin and press it into the clay i get a perfect impression of the coin.
God, impressed his nature onto human flesh (incarnation) and somehow although massively scaled down, lost none of his glory.
God, the son shares the same glory as God the Father.
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
That leads us into the final point:
Jesus is God’s final Word on exaltation
Jesus is God’s final Word on exaltation
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
“Sat down at the right hand of Majesty on high”
Jesus is exulted one.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The writer of Hebrews put its like this
10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
The heavens and earth will grow old, Christ will roll them up like an old garment, never to be worn again.
1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
To God be the glory
