Can You See It?_pt2: Not The Same

Isaiah 43:19 NIV
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Isa
If you think there is no hope… or you’re in a crisis… or you just doubt how good the future may be...
Know that He is “making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland!”
[ASK] - Do you remember the movie Back to The Future?
Of course you do… Marty goes back in time, sort of accidentally, and he’s trying to get back to the future.
He soon realizes that he’s got to be careful in the past, in order to not change the future.
[NOW] have you ever thought that if you could just go back and change some things in the past, it would provide for a much brighter future for yourself?
Ok, maybe not so literally, but maybe you’ve thought...
if I would have just done...
if I would have never done...
if that would have never happened to me...
The trouble with this - outside of the obvious fact that you cannot travel back in time - is that in this fantasy, you are the one in control.
And, you cannot save yourself.
But there is still hope!
Your past has been cleared. And your future is in God’s hands!
And, more than the past being cleared, YOU have been cleared.
[PAYOFF] - You are not the same!

Not the same

Psalm 51:10–11 NIV
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
(Message) “God, make a fresh start in me…”
When you meet Jesus, you are changed!
There is something that has take
Something new happens, inside of you = LIFE!
[PAYOFF] - In order to walk out the vision the Lord has given you, you’ve got to see things NEW - starting with YOURSELF!

New in Christ

Galatians 2:20 NIV
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
[EVERYONE SAY WITH ME] - I am NEW IN CHRIST!

A new life in Christ

You have been born again! The old you no longer exists…
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
New.
Not improved.
Not “let off the hook.”
Not “tweaked” or even “changed”
NEW!
How is this possible?
Because...
Colossians 3:3 NIV
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
olosC
Hidden – What we see of you now, is not your entire life (self).
[PAYOFF] - There is so much more to you, in Christ, yet to be revealed.
What makes you you, isn’t completely seen here this morning…
It’s unseen in Christ.
There is something special about you
There is something new about you…
[TRANSITION] - New in Christ is...

A new temple in Christ

Where you take your bodies
What you put in your bodies
What you do with your bodies
Paul said…
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 NIV
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
[PAYOFF] - We are His temple, and we belong to Him! - (1st dimension)
And there is more...
2 Corinthians 6:16 NIV
What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
1 Corinthians
[PAYOFF] - Not just ourselves, but us together form this temple… (2nd dimension)
Ephesians 2:22 NIV
And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
He lives in us by His Holy Spirit!
God lives in Connect Church – US – by His Holy Spirit
[PRAY THIS OUT LOUD] – Holy Spirit you are welcome in this place!
In my church!
In my home!
In my family!
In my heart!
Paul once came across some believers as he traveled...
Acts 19:2 NIV
and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Ephesians – One Lord, one faith, one baptism
Ephesians – One body, one Spirit, called to one hope
1 Corinthians – whoever is united with the Lord, is one with Him in spirit.
When we receive Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit
Further, Scripture speaks of being filled with the Spirit
There is an awareness of the Spirit that these men didn’t have, and I believe it was affecting their faith…
[TRANSITION] - New in Christ is...

A new faith in Christ

In Mark, Jesus sets the bar for our faith…
Mark 11:23 NIV
“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.
That type of faith would require something outside of ourselves; we don’t naturally have faith in the impossible.
Our “new self” now faces even mountains with the faith to overcome!
Examples: challenges in life.
How do you make a decision that could impact the future of your family?
How do you deal with the news that you have cancer?
How do you completely start over after pouring yourself into a job or career for decades?
How do you plant a church in a new community, where no one knows you?
How do you repair a marriage that has been challenged for 20 years?
How? Because there is something greater living on the inside of us!
Romans 8:9–10 NIV
You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
NOTE - and it’s not your own “righteousness” it’s His!
Romans 8:11 NIV
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
Because of His Spirit, we can have life and power inside of us!
Paul goes on to say that because of this, we have an obligation to live in the Spirit.
This is why we lay aside sin and seek righteousness.
God’s presence in our life goes even so far as helping us know what we should even pray
There will be times in your life where you don’t even know what you should pray, much less do.
And His Holy Spirit is there for us…
Romans 8:26 NIV
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
This prayer – wordless groans – come from deep within; it’s your spirit crying out to Heavenly Father.
Romans 8:
This is your “prayer language.”

Take Away

Romans 6:4 NIV
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
We are called to live a new life!
Ephesians 4:22–24 NIV
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
“Put off” – it is intentional
[PAYOFF] - In order to walk out the vision the Lord has given you, you’ve got to see things NEW - starting with YOURSELF!
You are not the same, stop living the same...

Set out everyday living in Christ!
