This morning we are in a series entitled RE..
The word Re is the “prefix” for many restorative words… we talk about renewal, refreshing, refueling, rethinking, re purposing… remodeling
--- The word Re means to do something again..
We are going to be looking at the word recommit… and what it means to Commit ourselves to a God given Purpose..
When we talk about Committing to a God given purpose…There is the implication that there is a point to life — life is more than a string of random events..
When my brother Robert was a teenager…he was wrestling with Christianity and Faith… you could say he was indifferent to Christianity…
God had a purpose for Rob and
Dwane share with Rob that God had a much better plan than what was written on His key chain… the timing was right and he made received the gift salvation…
that God had a much better plan than what was written on His key chain… the timing was right and Rob received the gift salvation… God had a purpose for Rob and he has a plan for each of us.
I remember this one weekend when pastor Dwane Udd and evangelist... stayed at our house and he went outside and spoke to Rob while he was working on his motorbike… Rob had this Key chain… that had the word written on it “born to loose” Dwane share with Rob the Gospel… Christ died for him and that God had a much better plan than what was written on His key chain… the timing was right and Rob received the gift salvation…Rob life changed dramatically… There is a point to life… life has purpose and meaning.
that not only did God create with intention - but that there is and end goal..and it includes... our good and His glory…
Life is not the random mess which it may sometimes appear.…
Life is not the random mess which it may sometimes appear.…
God has two purposes in that plan: our good and His glory.
is probably the best known verse in the Bible..
John Stott say that is the best known verse in the Bible..give much comfort like that pillow we lay heads on..
The Bible teaches us that …God has a plan....
Paul tells us that not only do we have a purpose but that God is ceaselessly, energetically and purposefully active on our behalf.
His purpose is for our our ultimate Good and His Glory… Regardless of your station in life or the circumstances you find yourself in....God is working all things together for good... … There is Nothing in our lives that is beyond the overruling, overriding scope of his providence…
It is not so much the destination but a process of walking in obedience....Oswald Chambers tells us that…
Nothing is beyond the overruling, overriding scope of his providence.
It is not our definition of what good looks like—rather, God’s purposes determine the good
God is working all things.. … good, bad and the ugly are working towards God’s eternal plan.
Nothing is beyond the overruling, overriding scope of his providence…
God’s training is for now, not presently.
His purpose is for this minute, not for something in the future
That is that all things… good, bad and the ugly are seen as having a positive outcome in God’s eternal plan.
Nothing is beyond the overruling, overriding scope of his providence…
God works good for those who are called according to his purpose… The word purpose is prothesis… which means plan or intention...
It is — an anticipated outcome that is intended or that guides planned actions… God has a plan… and it includes us… the church are those who have been called out… for purpose… There is divine intention… in calling…
iour definition of what good looks like—rather, God’s purposes determine the good…God is working all things.. … good, bad and the ugly are working towards God’s eternal plan.
Nothing is beyond the overruling, overriding scope of his providence…
God that is presumed as the undergirding and directing force behind all the events of life’.
It is — an anticipated outcome that is intended or that guides planned actions.

Over the past few weeks we have been in the book of Haggai… HAGGAI MESSAGE TO Judah that God has a PLAN and a PURPOSE … That is the rebuilding of the temple....
The book of Haggai is a plea for God’s people to commit to God’s purposes… often we say that we need the right people before we can make a difference in the world… just need good people....
.
Philip Brooks said,
“It does not take great men to do great things; it only takes consecrated men.”
Which leads us to the question of our commitments..
We commitment.
We commit ourselves to family, to our work... to exercise… to personal growth…the bottom line is that we commit to things that we value… Now sometime this can become a little blurry...
is not so much the destination but a process of walking in obedience..In order to walk in obedience in the now.. we need to think about the things that we are commited to… often these are the things that we deem important…
God is presumed as the undergirding and directing force behind all the events of life (moo) God is working things… He is ceaselessly, energetically and purposefully active on our behalf.
His purpose is for our Good and His Glory… That all things… good, bad and the ugly are seen as having a positive outcome in God’s eternal plan.
Nothing is beyond the overruling, overriding scope of his providence… God has a saving purpose, and is working in accordance with it.

Commitment is an important word.
In order to walk in obedience in the now.. we need to think about the things that we are commited to… often these are the things that we deem important…
We commit ourselves to family, to our jobs…our business... to exercise… to friends… we commit to things that we value…
We commit ourselves to family, to our jobs…our business... to exercise… to friends… we commit to things that we value…
Things that we consider important can change over time…and priorities can change… We have to discriminate when we commit…because you cannot be commited to everything.
How do we determine the things that we are to commit too and the things that we need to let go of?
Sometimes is difficult to make out the forest from the trees… right..

Forty years ago there was a neglected and sagging house was marked for demolition when the city of Ipswich in MA needed a new parking lot.
Residents of the area recognized the historic value of the old home, and fought to save it from the bulldozers.
They feared that the destruction of the old house meant losing touch with the past.
Today, the house is a permanent display at the National Museum of American History.
Though visitors can not actually go inside the structure, they can look through windows and cut away walls to get a sense of what it was like to live in the house during various periods of American history.

The question is what should we change and what should we preserve?
Life is all about answering these kinds of qualifying questions....
I am a big fan of thinking through what is working and what is not working…
Learning to stop and reflect is a powerful device… When you do this you see that there is opportunities to recast our future… by separating the things in our life that we need to change and the things that need to stay the same.
We have the opportunity to recast our future… by separating the things in our life that we need to change and the things that need to stay the same.
Some houses do need to be torn down, but some need to be put into museums.
And some things in our lives need to change, and others need to stay the same.
That process begins when we honestly re-evaluate our core values.
What are your values, the things that you’ll fight and die for?
What are the things that make you uniquely you?
In order to do this you have to get passed the window dressings of your life and drill down to the core.
If we are to Dig deep and you’ll discover values like these-values that define who you are.
You will also discover, if you are honest in your reflection, some areas of your life that need to change.
Be sure to get passed the window dressings of your life-drill down to the core.
A practical device that we could use to motivate us is the “What if” Question?
For instance, you may define yourself as a young person, an attractive person or a healthy person.
Some of those things will definitely change.
You can’t stop father time from making you older.
Get passed those surface things, drill deep, discover who you are.
What if we prayed and Revival hit our church this year?
What if we invited more families to church?
Revival hit our church this year?
What if our church became evangelistic in our outreach?
What if I commited to praying for my family?
The message of Haggai… Is basically… a call to reflect....Consider your ways?
It is a values question.
Dig deep and you’ll discover values like these-values that define who you are.
You will also discover, if you are honest in your reflection, some areas of your life that need to change.
I
Those enduring values are the continental divide of your soul.
