BAPTIZING WORK FO THE HOLY SPIRIT

I Corinthians 12:13

Opening Prayer

The baptizing work of the Holy Sprit may be defined as the Spirit placing the believer into union with Christ and into union with other believers in the Body of Christ.

There are ONLY 2 baptisms, Water and of the Holy Spirit.

          Water:  is declaring to the world that you have died to your sin and rose again a new

          person.

          Holy Spirit:  the Holy Spirit equipping you for the service of serving Jesus Christ.

1.       The baptism of the Holy Spirit is unique to the church age.

          I Corinthians 12:13 indicates that this ministry of the Spirit began at Pentecost.

          Acts 1:5, READ this indicates the baptizing work is still in the future.

          Acts 11:15 indicates the “beginning” of this world was at Pentecost in Acts 2.

          The baptizing work did not occur in the Old Testament,

                   it is unique to the church age which began at Pentecost.

2.       The baptism of the Holy Spirit includes all believers today.

          The emphasis that “all” are baptized by the Holy Spirit is stated in several passages.

          I Corinthians 12:13 indicates “we were all baptized.”

          Turn to Romans 6:1-7, READ all who were baptized are those who have been united to

          Christ, all believers.

          Galatians 3:26-29, READ says “all of you” were baptized into Christ and became

          “one in Christ,” no matter whether they were Jew or Greek, slave or free, Aleut, Yupik

          Irish, Scottish male or female.

3.       The baptism of the Holy Spirit brings believers unto union with other believers in the

          Body of Christ.

          I Corinthians 12:13 shows there is absolutely no distinction concerning those coming

          into union with one another: Jews, Gentiles, slaves, free people, men, women – ALL

          come into union with one another.

4.       The baptism of the Holy Spirit brings believers into union with Christ.

          Romans 6:3 says, that the very ones that were “baptized into Christ” were also “united

          with Him.”

          This truth prevents the baptism of the Spirit from being a work following to salvation.

5.       The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not observed.

          Since this is a work done to the believer and not by the believer, and since the baptism

          occurs at the same time to salvation, it is not always observed.

6.       The baptism of the Holy Spirit is performed by the Holy Spirit.

          There are not 2 baptisms by the Spirit.

          I Corinthians 12:13 says, “by one Spirit” suggesting the placing into us at Salvation.

          Acts 1:5 says, “with the Holy Spirit,” signifying a later act of empowering us for service.

There is only one way we can serve Jesus.

We have to have the Holy Spirit in us, there is no other way.
