Gifts of the Holy Spirit

I Corinthians 12

Sunday night we took a SPIRITUAL GIFT ASSESSMENT.

We found out what God has equipped us with.

These GIFTS are to be used in this building AND outside this building.

These GIFTS are to be used for believers AND unbelievers.

There are many more SPIRITUAL GIFTS besides the ones listed on the assessment.

We will go over just the ones on the assessment.

Administration

Those gifted to guide and oversee the various activities of the church.

References are found in: I Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 4:11-12; I Timothy 3:1-7 and Hebrews 13:7-17 and 13:24.

          Being an ADMINISTOR can be here serving on the Deacon Board, Sunday school

          Superintendent or being in charge of the Fish Feed, being on the School Board, Nushegak

          Board.

Apostleship

Any messenger commissioned as a missionary or for other special responsibilities.

References are found in Acts 13:1-3; I Corinthians 12:28-29 and Ephesians 4:11.

          Being an APOSTLE can be here serving on the Mission Board, setting up a mission

          conference.

          Or on your job, when people come from different parts of the country, showing them around

          and making sure they get where they need to go and have everything they need.

Craftsmanship, Hospitality and Helps – I put these together, because they are very closely related.

Those gifted for a variety of HELPFUL deeds

References are in I Corinthians 12:18 also look in I Kings when God gifted the people to build the Temple.

But God gives each of us special gifts that sometimes only we can do. 

God starts when we are a child He guides and teaches us as we grow.

          Being a CRAFTSMAN is doing work around the church or going somewhere to build a

          church or Sunday school rooms or repairing homes.

          This can be done for believers or it for non-believers.

                   Hurricane Katrina

This gift may not have anything to do with building or maintenance it could be

          sewing, cooking, for the family that just lost someone.

Babysitting

Visiting someone in their home or the hospital.

Cleaning someone’s home for them when they are sick.

Reading at the Library once or twice a month.

Or just being there to listen when someone needs to talk.

 

Creative Communication

You may have the gift of sign language.

You may be able to be an interpreter, in another language.

You may be into drama/human videos.

Singing specials

Discernment

Special ability to judge whether prophecies and utterances are from the Holy Spirit.

References are found in I Corinthians 12:10 and 14:29.

You are able to tell if what is being said lines up with the Word God.

It can also be used out in the world.

          Someone comes to you with a great way to make some fast money.

          You sense that something is not right, so you refuse.

          Or you since that it is a good deal, so you do it.

Encouragement

Those gifted to motivate other Christians to a deeper faith and dedication to Christ, a fuller manifestation of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and a more complete separation from the world.

References are found in Romans 12:8; I Corinthians 14:3; I Thessalonians 5:11 and 5:14-22; and Hebrews 10:24-25.

You are able to lift people up when they are down, make them laugh when they need too.  Pray for them when they haven’t asked you too.

You can also use this gift in every day life out in the world, at work, at school.

          You can tell when something is troubling someone.

          You have the ability to sit and listen and keep your mouth shut.

 

 

Evangelism

Those gifted by God to proclaim the gospel to the unsaved.

References are found in Ephesians 4:11

You have God’s Boldness to approach people with God’s Word.

Using this in the world is harder, you can use it at work, by telling people what a great place it is to work at a place.

The ability to sell a product.

Faith

 

Supernatural faith imparted by the Holy Spirit, enabling a Christian to believe God for the miraculous.

References are found in Mathew 21:21-22; Mark 8:23-24; and 11:22-24; Luke 17:6;

Acts 3:1-8 and 6:5-8; I Corinthians 12:9 and 13:2 and James 5:14-15.

This kind of faith is when you know, that you know God will do something miraculous.

In the world you can have the faith to believe in someone, who doesn’t believe in themselves.

Giving

Those gifted to GIVE freely of their resources to the needs of God’s people.

References are found in Acts 2:44-45; 4:34-35 and 11:29-30; I Corinthians 16:1-4;

II Corinthians Chapters 8 and 9; Ephesians 4:28; I Timothy 6:17-19; Hebrews 13:16; and

I John 3:16-18.

GIVING doesn’t always mean giving of your money.

You can GIVE your time to the church or to helping people that need it.

          Moving/babysitting/building something/working on their vehicle

You can give out in the world also, opening a door for someone, smiling at someone, say HI, wave, or help someone that is down and out.

Intercession

The ability to PRAY and stand in the gap for someone, sometimes you may not even know the person.

Being obedient to the Lord when He wakes you up in the middle of the night to pray.

Being obedient to the Lord when you are at work and He lays someone or something on your heart to pray for right then.

You pray for your city/school/job place/Israel/missionaries

You can pray with people in the world.  They may not believe or go to church, BUT they will be able to tell if you pray, they will come to a Christian to pray for them or their family.

 

Knowledge

An utterance from the Holy Spirit revealing knowledge about people, circumstances of Biblical truth.

References found in Acts 10:47-48; Acts 13:2; Acts 15:7-11; and I Corinthians 12:8; 13:2; 13:9; 13:12 and 14:25.

When you pray for someone, they ask it to be unspoken, but God tells you what is going on.

So you will know what to pray.

God will also use this out in the world, when He needs you to pray for stranger.

 

Leadership

You have the ability to Lead.

Some people are Leaders and some are Followers.

You have the faith and the ability to LEAD a missionary trip, a project.

In the world, you can use this at work/school

Mercy

You are able to feel someone’s hurt.

You will cry with someone.

You have compassion for strangers you meet on the street.

 

Prophecy

A special temporary ability to bring a word, warning, exhortation or revelation from God under the impulse of the Holy Spirit.

References are found in Luke 12:12; Acts 2:17-18; I Corinthians 12:10; 13:9 and 14:1-33; Ephesians 4:11; I Thessalonians 5:20-21; II Peter 1:20-21 and I John 4:1-3

You hear and give messages that come directed to God.

This is a hard gift, you have to trust and have faith in God to step out and give a message from Him.

Shepherding

Those chosen and gifted to oversee the church and care for its spiritual needs.

References are Acts 14:23; 15:1-6 and 1:22-23; 16:4; 20:17-38; Romans 12:8; Ephesians 4:11-12; Philippians 1:1; I Timothy 3:1-7; 5:17-20; Titus 1:5-9; Hebrews 13:17 and I Peter 5:1-5

You have the love of God for the people God has chosen to oversee.

You have a sense to protect them.

Teaching

Those gifted to clarify and explain God’s Word in order to build up the church.

References are Romans 12:7; Ephesians 4:11-12; Colossians 3:16; I Timothy 3:2; and 5:17; and II Timothy 2:2 and 2:24.

You have the ability to teach something and everyone can understand you.

Teaching builds up the church, because you can draw a picture with your words.

You have the ability to make it sound easy.

Wisdom

An utterance from the Holy Spirit applying God’s Word or wisdom to a specific situation.

References are Acts 6:3; I Corinthians 12:8; 13:2; 13:9 and 13:12.

The situation with the music here was from the Holy Spirit using God’s Word and wisdom to a specific situation.

The Holy Spirit has given several words applying God’s Word and wisdom.

Each one of us has a special gift that God has given and put in our heart.

Remember these are only a few of the SPIRITUAL GIFTS that God give, there are many, many more.

God gives us SPIRITUAL GIFTS for a reason.

TOO USE THEM FOR THE BUILDING OF HIS KINGDOM.

 

If we refuse to use the GIFTS He has given us,

          He will take them away from us and,

                   give them to someone who is willing to do His Will.

Communion
