Goal: What we teach matters.

Illustration: Who traveled here to St. Louis by plane?
The airline safety speech: safety brochure in the seat in front of you. Turn your phone on airplane mode. Have you seats up right and your trays in the locked position. Should the oxygen mask fall down, put yours on first and then help the person next to you. You seat turned into a flotation device. The exits are to your right and your left. As they are going through this safety talk, hopefully they have a captive audience. Imagine for a moment if the flight attendants got bored of going through the same old safety instruction and instead use that time and that captive audience to teach a lesson on the history of aviation instead on airline safety. If a real emergency would occur teaching history instead of safety could cost lives.
On the plane, what is taught matters.
And for St Paul, in his letter to Timothy its the same for the church.
What the church teaches matters.
Cultural/Historical Context
WRONG TEACHING
Jewdiazers - those who focused on the law
Gnostics - those who that the material world was evil and that people are saved through a hidden knowledge.
- deadly teaching (shipwreck of their faith; handed over the Satan)
