After the anointing, the Spirit of the LORD came on David
At the same time, an evil spirit came to Saul and gave him trouble
The spirit of the LORD gave David
Power
Wisdom
Good favor(kindness)
Skill(sip)
But the evil spirit from the Lord gave Saul
Trouble
And it takes a lot to trouble a powerful king
I want the Spirit of the LORD on my life
The good spirit
Not the evil spirit
Amen?
Why did he evil spirit go to Saul
And the Spirit of the LORD go to David?
Saul was the big ruler(shasak)
Saul won many victories in battle
Saul had helped to protect God’s people for years
David was a boy
David was a shepherd
Not lifted up by people
His time was spent with animals
Many would say - wasted
But what do we know about Saul and David?
At this point, we know much about Saul and his history
But we know little about David
But in Saul, we see a pattern(aadarsha, namunaa)
He was a people pleaser
He often disobeyed God
He used his power and position(darjaa) for himself
We don’t know much about David
But we see a different pattern(aadarsha, namunaa)
We see a FAITHFUL shepherd
We know he was good looking(vs.12)
Obedient in small things
(Killed a lion and a bear for sheep!)
He obeyed even in difficulty
But most importantly, we know that he was chosen by God
And God chose him because of his heart! (vs.7)
1 Samuel 13:14 KJV 1900
But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.
We have a man whose heart was God’s
Dedicated(samarpan) to the LORD
Man after God’s own heart
And a man who rebelled against and disobeyed the LORD
Time after time
Served his own desires
It is a sweet thing to have the Spirit of the LORD
To be in God’s will
To obey the LORD
To be close to the LORD
But it is dangerous to fight the LORD!
When you refuse the authority of God
When you reject(aswikaarnu) God’s will
When you ignore(upekshya garnu) God’s Word
When you try to continue in a place when God says “NO.”
Trouble is coming!
Don’t be surprised!
Don’t get angry at God!
Don’t blame others
Move! Get in God’s will!
Listen to what God wants! Obey!
Do right!
Saul fooled(chhalnu) many people
God rejected(aswikaarnu bhayo) Saul
He was still the king
People listened to him
People obeyed him
But God knew (and the man of God )
God judged Him
God gave him this trouble
God gave him this evil spirit
And God gave the kingdom David
The man who gave God his heart!
Set your heart toward the LORD
Matthew 6:33 KJV 1900
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Do you seek the things of God?
Let him
Is that your focus?
Reading God’s Word!
Seeking God’s face(anuhaar) in prayer!
Sharing your faith!
Living with the right spirit and attitude(rabaiya)!
Looking forward to Christ’s coming!
Seek his kingdom first!
Seek the Spirit of the LORD in your life!
Seek the Spirit of the LORD in your life!
