A Mighty Wine
In College, I was asked to lead a Bible Study for Freshmen.
I was up for anything, and told that to Dave Tan.
I had never been a Freshman at Davis, so I was nervous.
We had to find the freshmen, invite them out, then ask them to come.
We prepared sermons and pr0ayed that anybody would show up.
This is how we are now; we have a mission, but we can trust God to show up.

These people are all devout Jews, celebrating a traditional holiday.
They speak many languages, but have commonality in Israel.

They needed their savior, and so they met, and God came through (really came through).
We are a common people; we are all Californians.
Yet we are also different people; young, old, nationalities.
We are in a time of renewal; we are actually beginning something new.
They had a hard time reaching Parthians, Medes, Elamites, Mesopotamians, Judeans, Cappadocians, Pontusians, and Asians.
We may have a hard time reaching Indians, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tech Hipsters, Catholics, Atheists.
God came through for them, he will come through for us.
I don’t have the answers right now, but neither did they.
All I know is that God wants us to meet.
He’ll provide the details soon enough.
They may say we’re filled with new wine, too.
It’s really “sweet wine”, like a White Zin.
At the moment, maybe, we’re a Wine that should have been left in the skin a bit longer.
We’re different from the regular Church; we’re a bit sweeter.
Sometimes you don’t want a Merlot, you want a White Zin, and that’s OK.
God has shown that if people meet in his name and gather, then he will be there too and will come through.
We can count on the same, even if we’re just the White Zin of the Church world.
