Last Sunday we started this series entitled “Starting the Year with Daniel”
We learned a few things that we can, or must do whenever we face difficult situations
Through Daniel, the words of Jesus was again proven trustworthy by God
Jesus said, “what is impossible with men, is possible with God” (Matthew 19:26)
What are evidently impossible to the magicians, astrologers, fortune tellers, are made possible by God
God revealed to Daniel the interpretation of king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, and he got promoted as ruler over Babylon, and in charge of all its wise men
Who wants to be promoted? Let me see your hands...
BREATHE!
But before that happened, there were series of things that Daniel did
Things where we can learn “cross cultural” and “cross generational” principles that are still applicable today in our daily modern lives
BREATHE!
These are not in your outline, you may go ahead and write them down if you may…
When reading the Bible, sometimes you find yourselves wondering when you encounter things that may be inexplicable, or things that may be bizarre
Things that seems to be irrelevant to our time and culture
Take note that what we are studying today are written about 2,500 years and many cultures ago, and in the passing of time, a lot of things have changed
BREATHE!
We know that God talks to us, through His Spirit, primarily through His Word, the Bible
If you recall, I had a sermon that taught about how God talks to us
I compared and illustrated "how God talks to us” by using the stars in the constellation
That receiving the messages of God, is like connecting those stars
And one of those stars, as a matter of fact, the very prime one, is His Word, the Bible
We believe that the Bible is the supreme authority of our faith, and understanding it very carefully is truly crucial
We believe that the words in the Bible are written by inspired men of God
We believe that it is infallible, in other words, it never fails
We believe that is in inerrant, meaning, free from error
And important things such as cultural, historical and grammatical background shall be cautiously considered whenever we try to interpret the scriptures
BREATHE!
Because our first goal in interpreting the Bible is to know what the author meant to the original audience, or first hearers
And the second goal should be, to find what a passage says to us “today”
Keep in mind that there is only one interpretation
However, while there is only one interpretation, there could be several “principles” where we can learn sevaral “life applications”
I’ll be talking more on this when we start our Sunday School Course on “Hermeneutics” this Spring
Meanwhile, let me go back to my sermon

Facing your “Mission Impossible” the way Daniel did, could deliver you through, and could get you promoted in various fields
Promoted at work, career, family, school or even promotion in the ministry of God
We learned from Daniel how we should face tough, difficult or impossible-looking scenarios
The first 6 things we learned from Daniel are:
Don’t Panic
Ask Why
Never Rush and Ask for Time
Invite people to pray with you (Life Group)
Empathize with Others (even with the unbelievers)
Lay your Problems and Petitions before God
As we continue to look into the life of Daniel, turn your Bible to

While you do that, let me take you to the words that God gave to Jeremiah
Jeremiah by the way is a contemporary of Daniel
Their prophetic activities are some time around the 6th Century before Christ
And here is what God said through Jeremiah
‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
And that was what Daniel and his friends exactly did, they called upon the most high God
And the mystery of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream was revealed to them
Facing the Impossible with Daniel (continued)
Facing the Impossible with Daniel (continued)
During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven
The 7th thing that we can learn from Daniel when facing the impossible is to…

7. Ask God for Supernatural Help
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
;
Ask and it shall be given
Seek and you shall find
Knock and doors will be opened
8. Praise the God of Heaven
Praise His name
20 and said: “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his.
20 and said: “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. 21 He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. 22 He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. 23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king.”
and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.
Praise His name
What’s in a name?
How important is your name to you?
What are you willing to give or do, to protect your name?
To those of you who have children, did you find it challenging when you named your kids?
Did you ever wonder what your name truly means?
I googled my name and this is what I got
English form of the Roman family name Antonius, which is of unknown Etruscan origin. The most notable member of the Roman family was the general Marcus Antonius (called Mark Antony in English), who for a period in the 1st century BC ruled the Roman Empire jointly with Augustus. When their relationship turned sour, he and his mistress Cleopatra were attacked and forced to commit suicide, as related in Shakespeare's tragedy 'Antony and Cleopatra' (1606).
The name became regularly used in the Christian world due to the fame of Saint Anthony the Great, a 4th-century Egyptian hermit who founded Christian monasticism. Its popularity was reinforced in the Middle Ages by the 13th-century Saint Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of Portugal. It has been commonly (but incorrectly) associated with Greek ανθος (anthos) "flower", which resulted in the addition of the h to this spelling in the 17th century.
My name is most popular here in the United States followed by Canada, and least popular in the Netherlands
What about Emmanuel?… it means “God with us”
How important is your name to you?
What are you willing to give or do, to protect your name?
Our name, shem in Hebrew is very important
It represents who we are, our character, our personality, our reputation
In Ecclesiastes says these
A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.
“Fine perfume”, in other translations, “Precious Ointment”, may literally means great wealth
Because in the ancient world, an abundance of oil was a sign of wealth
Hence, the passage means that a good name is better than great wealth
The scripture also said that our day of death is better than the day of birth, what does that mean?
It means, it is what you make up of your name while you live, and until you die
That’s why we put “epitaph” in the tombstones of those who passed
BREATHE!
So turn to your neighbor and ask...
How fragrant is your name?
How reputable is your name?
Did people baptized you with an Alias?
Anthony the “cheater”, Anthony the “adulterer”, the “arrogant”
Philip the “thief”
Ryan the “liar”
“Juan Tamad”
You don’t want those negative aliases attached to your names, do you?
If our name is very important to us, how much more that the Lord’s name is very important to Him
He is very personal and serious about this, that He made it number 3 in His 10 commandments, look
“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
The name of God is holy
It must not be used as cuss word
When you’re in the presence of people who misuses the name of Jesus Christ, what do you do?
Do you just look down and pretend that you’re not hearing anything?
Or, you will take the humble position of courage and say that, you would appreciate if they will refrain from misusing the name that you love and worship?
BREATHE!
Praise His deeds
Daniel
21 He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. 22 He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.
Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.
The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart;
Praise Him for everything that He has done for you and your family
BREATHE!
Praise by Thanking Him
23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king.”

9. Use what God shows me to Save Others
24 Then Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to execute the wise men of Babylon, and said to him, “Do not execute the wise men of Babylon. Take me to the king, and I will interpret his dream for him.”
This is “witnessing” for others

and finally,
10. Point People to God
27 Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, 28 but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come. Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind as you were lying in bed are these:
Don’t be like Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard in verse 25
25 Arioch took Daniel to the king at once and said, “I have found a man among the exiles from Judah who can tell the king what his dream means.”
He is grabbing the credit
Do you know of someone who always love to grab the credit?
Don’t look at him, just think of him and pray for him
