When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
THE CONFUSED CROWD
THE CONFUSED CROWD
“When he saw the crowds.…”
There were all types of people in the crowd that followed Christ.

When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.
Christ not only came to save man but to heal man spiritually, physically, and mentally.

Sinful people
Sinful people
All men are sinners.
This is why our Lord came
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
).
Jesus didn’t come to condemn you but to convert you.
He didn’t come to condemn but to convert.
He didn’t come to rebuke you but to redeem you.
Not to rebuke but to redeem.

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
Jesus forgives the woman guilty of adultery.
.
Jesus forgives the woman guilty of adultery.
God forgives all sin.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
Too often man forgives but does not forget.

When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

He took time for all people. You are not unimportant.
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Zacchaeus was hated by many because of his way of living; yet Christ takes time for him.

THE COMPASSIONATE CHRIST
THE COMPASSIONATE CHRIST
“… He had compassion on them.…”
Divine compassion
Divine compassion
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
.
God was willing to give His only Son for your sins.
We must admit that we sin and need a Savior
God was willing to give His only Son for the sins of mankind.
Dedicated compassion

No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”
Christ had power to give or to withhold His life.
Christ had power to give or to withold His life.
When Christ died, He died for all.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
It is not the Lord’s will that any perish but that all be saved.
It is not the Lord’s will that any perish but that all be saved.
He died for His enemies .
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Christ prayed, “… Not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
Christ prayed, “… Not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
Though it meant suffering, He was willing to pay the full price for our salvation.
THE CONCERNED CHRIST
THE CONCERNED CHRIST
“… Because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
Harassed People
Harassed People
faint, troubled, distressed
There was no spiritual help.
Many cry out as David did.
Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life.

“scattered.”
There was no spiritual hope.
The Philippian jailer did not know the plan of salvation.
He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.
Hopeless People
Hopeless People
“no shepherd.”
There was no shepherd to help.
Paul asks,
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Take this with you...
Take this with you...
You have hope no matter what your circumstances because you have a shepherd.
Small groups are a part of that help.
As we we gather, grow and go.

God sent His Son, the Great Shepherd, to us.
God has also given us the church to help one another.
Small groups are a part of that help.
Small groups are a part of that help.
As we we gather, grow and go, consider joining a small group.
Some of us are not “group people” I totally get that, but I’m asking you to entertain the possibility that this is how God wants to minister to and through you.
