TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

3Then Samuel said to all the people of Israel, “If you want to return to the Lord with all your hearts, get rid of your foreign gods and your images of Ashtoreth. Turn your hearts to the Lord and obey him alone; then he will rescue you from the Philistines.”

I. What the heart is.

A. The source of evil thoughts:

(NLT) The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.

B. The source of deceit and corruption:

II. What the heart should do.

A. Love God

(NLT) Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’

B. Trust God

(NLT) Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

(NLT) Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
