Battle

1 Samuel 17:48 NKJV
So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
2017 was a tough year with many challenges and changes much as the Israelite’s faced in 1 Samuel
A sense of hopelessness seemed to have taken hold across the land
What was once a felling of anticipation and a good future suddenly disappeared as a wisp on the wind
The nation was celebrating a new king, hope was on the horizon but the king’s disobedience brought them to a place of judgement and despair
Saul’s disobedience and refusal to yield to God brought the nation face-to-face with the regions most powerful army
How did they get here? They lost the vision for God to lead their lives!
1 Samuel 8:4–9 NKJV
Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah, and said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day—with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods—so they are doing to you also. Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them.”
1 Samuel 8:19–20 NKJV
Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”
Even after the warning of the Lord the people refused to heed his advise!
The key verse here is v:20
“that we also may be like all the nations”
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
His own special people - possession - that which is acquired by considerable effort! A relationship or a connection with the divine, an experience - literally “A group in a relationship with God that He acquired by considerable effort
We are in that relationship now because we are a HOLY nation - A group of people demonstrating divine qualities!
Romans 1:24–25 NKJV
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
It is exactly what is happening around us today
Man needs to sooth his consciousness of sin so eradicate the rules
They created new rules that allowed them to live in their sin and continue their rebellion
“That our King may judge us”
Man does not want to hear about the Judgement of God
The Word of God drives home the reality that we missed the mark - harmatia Greek word for sin!
Man has a tolerance for sin - God does not
John 7:24 NKJV
Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
How can we judge righteously if we do not know what righteousness is?
An airplane pilot knows he needs to get from point a to point B and that he or she can’t so it on their own so they rely on the direction of the ATC
They do not move without permission and direction in order to safely navigate their journey!
Why do they trust the ATC? They can see the whole picture and the potential dangers that exist
The Bible today is that source or our ATC!
John 5:30 NKJV
I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
Man seeks his own will but Jesus was seeking God’s will
That the king may go out before us into the battle!
Raise your hand today i you want to be on the losing team? Who here today wants to serve in the army of defeat?
1 Samuel 10:17–19 NKJV
Then Samuel called the people together to the Lord at Mizpah, and said to the children of Israel, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all kingdoms and from those who oppressed you.’ But you have today rejected your God, who Himself saved you from all your adversities and your tribulations; and you have said to Him, ‘No, set a king over us!’ Now therefore, present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your clans.”
The very thing that set them apart from the other nations was their special relationship with God…but they lost focus of that!
Today the very thing that sets you apart from the world is special relationship with God
Being a Christian is to be an observable example of the one you proclaim!
Matthew 5:14–16 NKJV
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
2 Corinthians 3:2–3 NKJV
You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
It is as we walk in the righteousness of God's Word He becomes our defender
Psalm 3:1–8 NKJV
Lord, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are they who say of me, There is no help for him in God.” Selah But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O Lord; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah
Psalm 18:30 NKJV
As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
The problem here is that if there is a man in front then we have false sense of security and do not need to trust in our unseen God!
1 Peter 1:6–9 NKJV
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.
It is through our unwavering trust in His promises that brings us to the place of victory!
