Prayer
God wants to communicate with us
God was the one who came down to the garden to see Adam
The phrase “God said”, was spoken 41 times in the old testament
1,239 prophecies
All of scripture is “breathed by God”
God wants to communicate with us.
John 10:27–28 NLT
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,
Hearing Jesus’s voice is crucial in following him
Our relationship with Jesus has LISTENING as a very important element
Jesus gave us some brief directions on prayer
Matthew 6:5–13 NLT
“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
This answers an important question
How often should we pray?
Daily Bread.......That seems to be daily!
If you think that is hard and excessive
Muslim prayer requirements

Habakkuk describes the steps of Christian prayer well (Rick Warren)
Habakkuk 2:1–2 NLT
I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint. Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.
Withdraw....
If you have an important subject to discuss with your lawyer....where do you meet?
Their office
If you want to address something serious with a friend...
Luke 5:16 NLT
But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.
My prayer time at New Life before work
Not bragging- what I needed to do to stay spiritually afloat
Wait....
Psalm 46:10 NLT
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
Be still means
to stop (discontinue) v. — to put an end to a state or an activity.
Stop our mental figuring out
Stop our efforts at changing things
Just wait & listen & know that he is God
Lamentations 3:24–26 NLT
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.
Don’t broadcast your struggles and issues and complaint
Saying nothing....and waiting and trusting.... takes faith, discipline
Psalm 130:5 NIV
I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.
When God is silent, his word still speaks
Micah 7:7 NLT
As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.
Surrender my will
Be willing to say.. “whatever you say, I will do”
This will bring clarity......
Unseen growth:
The Chinese bamboo tree is one of the most remarkable plants on earth.
Once the gardener plants the seed, he will see nothing but a single shoot coming out of the bulb - for five full years!
That tiny shoot, however, must have daily food and water.
During all the time the gardener is caring for the plant, the exterior shoot will grow less than an inch.
At the end of five years, however, the Chinese bamboo will perform an incredible feat.
It will grow an amazing ninety feet tall in only ninety days! Now ask yourself this:
When did the tree actually grow? During the first five years, or during those last ninety days?
The answer lies in the unseen part of the tree, the underground root system.
During the first five years, the fibrous root structure spreads deep and wide in the earth, preparing to support the incredible heights the tree will eventually reach.
The first 5 years is the spiritual warfare part
Spiritual Warfare Prayer is not asking God to do something
It is believing God WILL do something and proclaiming it over the situation
How do you test something to know it is from God
You know a prayer is in God’s will because it does not go away
Consistent with the bible
Believing for someone to come to the faith
That’s biblical
Feeling to be generous to someone or help someone (enemy or adversary)
That’s biblical…(Good Samaritan)
Praying for a career change or promotion
That’s biblical....(God wants his children to succeed and be self sufficient)
Praying for a healing
That’s certainly biblical....but has some conditions on it
God’s timing
Lessons that can come through trial
Praying for understanding about a situation or wisdom
That’s biblical....tells us to pray for wisdom
Church Family agrees
Proverbs 15:22 NLT
Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.
Acts 15:28 NLT
“For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay no greater burden on you than these few requirements:
Lead instead of driven
.for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”  Revelation 7:17
"Even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me."  Psalm 139:10
