As King of Israel God uses Solomon build His temple. This is also significant; because we need to understand when we seek wisdom and understanding from God He will begin to use us to do things other people only dream of.

2.The  Rejection of Wisdom (v.7b)                                                       Proverbs 1:7

The Principles of Proverbs

Biblical model of parenthood (v. 8-9)

The Mother, along with the father, is the teacher of the children not just the mother along.

1. Religious education. Children were expected to learn the Law in order to become a kingdom of priests and a holy people (Ex. 19:6).

2. Occupational skills. Children learned trades in an apprentice environment and took on such responsibilities at an early age (1 Sam. 16:11).

3. Military strategy and skills. Strength and courage were emphasized (2 Sam.        Proverbs 1:8-9

The Proposals of the Sinful Man

1. Invitation (v. 10-11a)

A few weeks ago I talked about being Christ like and then the next week I talked about, yet it’s one thing to say be Christ like, but it’s another when you have to really encounter some hellions. I told you KNOW HOW is not enough we need some knowledge. Prov. 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.  Some of us have education but no wisdom, smart but stuck on stupid at the same time. Wisdom is often referred to as she or her, now in my seeking wisdom and getting understanding I needed to know why.

Now even when you seek to get understanding, you will get an indecent proposal from some sinful man or woman. The word if use in the text does not suggest that it might not happen, but is used as a sup•po•si•tion something that is supposed to happen and it is going to happen.

The word translated “sinners” is one of the mildest Hebrew words for sin. I had this part titled Beware of Sinners, but Solomon begin to remind me that is not the sinner that the problem it’s the sin. I can hang out on my job with sinners for eight hours, but that don’t make me a sinner, it’s the sin that defiles me.

Now when you receive the invitation you need to understand that you are at the crossroads of life. On one side is the Sinners and the World and on the other is side is the Spirit and the Bride both saying come.

Happy is the person who learns to say no early in life no to the first invitation to accept a drink of alcohol, to smoke a cigarette, to some marijuana, or indulge in illicit sex.

2. The  Incitement  (v. 11b-13) (urged to act)

The sinners make no attempt to disguise the nature of their proposition. Those who respond to their invitation are quickly drawn in all the way.

First comes the murder proposition, they don’t care if you know what you are getting ready to do will kill your marriage. They don’t care to cover up that when you have sex you could end up with AIV that will kill you are some other disease that you will have to live with the rest of your life.

In addition to the invitation to a life of violence sinners offer the money proposition, you know we live in a world where people will kill you over five dollars, not only that but we see time and time again where people that make the fast money don’t live or stay free long enough to enjoy it or they are broke out on the streets.

3. The Inadvisable (v.14) (Not recommended)

Running on ice is inadvisable, but we accept so many proposals that we know is too good to be true. We move in together and we will go half on the rent, I will always love you, you give me five hundreds and I give you five thousands back.

                                                                                                                    Proverbs 1:10-14

The Perils of the Sinful Man

1. A Word of Warning (v. 15-16)

Watch your step. Too often we get the attitude that I will try anything once, so often one time is all that needed to mess our lives up.

It’s all downhill from here. The way of sin is down-hill; men not only cannot stop themselves, but, the longer they continue in it, the faster they run, and make haste in it.

2. A Word of Wisdom (v.17-19)

Job 35:11 God made us wiser then the fowls of the air.  But the sinner sees ruin at the end of his way; the murderer, the thief, see the jail and the gallows before them, nay, they may see hell before them; their watchmen tell them they shall surely die, but it is to no purpose; they rush into sin, and rush on in it, like the horse into the battle.

Solomon reminds us that sin is self – destructive, and the in the rush to get rich we abandon moral principles, honesty and integrity. The man who became a banker at 25 and a millionaire a 30.
