First, we prepare our hearts (phase 1), then we prepare the hearts of those in the community that we want to reach with the good news of the gospel.
We do this by showing them God’s love, and discovering what their needs are.

3 Fruits of Revival

When you have an encounter with Christ, when you fall in love with Jesus, you naturally want to become more like Him.
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3.18
But what about the person that says, “God loves me just the way I am. The Lord knows my heart. I might be living in sin, I might be a terrible person, but God knows I love him. Besides, don’t judge me!”
Does that work? Is that biblical?
God does love you just the way you are, BUT He loves you TOO much to leave you there.
He wants you to be on a constant path of growth.
Have you become satisfied with where you are at spiritually?
Last time- How well do you know Jesus?
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
If you are abiding in the vine, you will bear fruit.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Notice what Jesus said:
John 15:
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
Luke says it this way:
“For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.
For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Revival without reformation is emotionalism
Reformation without revival is dry legalism
Revival leads to reformation
What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?
If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?
Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!
But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
The book Steps to Christ clarifies this relationship between love and works by saying that love should be the motive for all our good works.
Love for Christ should be the “spring of action”
Steps to Christ Chapter 5—Consecration
When Christ dwells in the heart, the soul will be so filled with His love, with the joy of communion with Him, that it will cleave to Him; and in the contemplation of Him, self will be forgotten. Love to Christ will be the spring of action.
Steps to Christ Chapter 5—Consecration
Those who feel the constraining love of God, do not ask how little may be given to meet the requirements of God; they do not ask for the lowest standard, but aim at perfect conformity to the will of their Redeemer. With earnest desire they yield all and manifest an interest proportionate to the value of the object which they seek. A profession of Christ without this deep love is mere talk, dry formality, and heavy drudgery.
Steps to Christ, love to be the motive.
We have good works not so that we can be saved, but we have good works because we are saved, as a response of love to God for His goodness to us.
So we see that revival leads to good works.
Revival starts with a change of heart, but it leads to a change of action.
If the actions aren’t changing, the heart hasn’t really changed.
Revival also leads to evangelism.

What does it mean to be a “witness”
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
When we experience an encounter with the living Christ, we become witnesses.
Notice how the book of 1 John starts out:
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life—
the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—
that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
Notice David’s experience:
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.

And of course we can’t forget the woman at the well:
John 4:
And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.”
The book Steps to Christ describes it this way:
Steps to Christ Chapter 9—The Work and the Life
No sooner does one come to Christ than there is born in his heart a desire to make known to others what a precious friend he has found in Jesus; the saving and sanctifying truth cannot be shut up in his heart. If we are clothed with the righteousness of Christ and are filled with the joy of His indwelling Spirit, we shall not be able to hold our peace. If we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good we shall have something to tell.

So I hope that this time of revival will not just be a passing feeling for you. That you won’t just go through the motions and say, “Wasn’t that nice” but then go on as if nothing happened.
I pray that this time for us will be a fruitful time for you. That you will allow the Holy Spirit to really come into your heart and your life.
