I.     The Meaning of Redemption

A.    The Words

1.     agorazo – purchased from the slave market – 1 Cor 6:20

”you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

2.     exagorazo – purchased from the slave market and removed from the slave market altogether – Gal 4:5

4.     lutrosis – to be set free by the payment of a ransom – Heb 9:12

“He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.”

Not a ransom paid to Satan. Justice of God.

5.     apolutrosis – to be permanently set free by the payment of a ransom – Eph 1:7

 

Another Super size – Permanent.

6.     Definition – Redeemed – to be permanently ransomed and removed from the slave market by the paying of the full price required

B.    The Illustrations

1.     Israel was Redeemed out of Slavery in Egypt – Deut 24:18

“Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you from there. That is why I command you to do this.”

2.     Redemption is Like “Green Stamps”

II.    The Blessings of Redemption

A.    It Freed Us from the Curse – Gal 3:10, Jas 2:10, Gal 3:13

 

Galatians 3:10

All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.”

Galatians 3:13

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

Substitionary Atonement.

B.    It Led to Adoption  – Gal 4:5

 

Galatians 4:5

“so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”

C.    It Brought Forgiveness – Col 1:14

 

Colossians 1:14

“in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

D.    It is the Basis for Justification – Rom 3:24

 

Romans 3:24

“being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;”

III.  The Response to Redemption

A.    Let’s Serve Christ – Titus 2:14

 

Titus 2:14

“who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

Motivation – Hanging Tree Western – Western Doctor saved life.

B.    Let’s Worship Christ – Rev 5:9

 

Revelation 5:9

And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

 

Kid, birds, feed to cat, man buy. Set them free – Singing.

Conclusion:

Rev. 5:12 – Sing?

 

Revelation 5:12

“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.”

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,

According to his power that is at work within us,

To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
